Special districts in Oregon are formed to provide specific local government needs. They are created by a vote of the people in the local area being served. Examples include people’s utility districts, library districts, water districts, fire protection districts, and more. They are governed by a board of directors, which is responsible for management and financial accountability. Special districts are empowered to levy any necessary taxes and fees to fulfill their mandate. Board members are not paid but may receive a per diem reimbursement.The 267 fire protection districts in Oregon can have different structures and mandates, but all are responsible for funding and staffing fire prevention and safety services, and for managing the budgets of local fire stations.Qualifications: Candidate must be a registered voter or a landowner in the district. If the district has a supporting ordinance, employees of the district are not eligible. ORS 478.050Term: 4 years

Your Experience/Qualifications 35 years Volunteer Firefighter. Last 10 years of my career I was the Volunteeer Chief and Assistant Chief for SW Polk Fire District. I was the voice of the Volunteer firefighters to the Board of Directs. I owned and operated a construction company for 15 years. I understand budgets and efficient spending of money. s

Was a Volunteer Firefighter for SW Polk Fire District for 35 years. Last 10 years of my career I was Volunteer Assistant Chief and Retired as Volunteer Fire Chief. I was the voice of the Volunteers to the Board of Directors for almost 15 years. I owned and operated a construction company for 15 years. I bring to the table the understanding of budgets and spending within your means.
Financial Responsibility. Looking at how the money is being spent and question why. Be more involved with financial request.

Restoring the Volunteer program. Having tough conversations with the Chief to bring back a well trained volunteer program to support the career staff.

Complete Transparency to the residents of SW Polk Fire District. Have a Monthly and Special Board Meeting minutes on the website and availible to understand what is happening with the District operationaly and financially.
The board are the rules and procedure makers.These rules and procedure are to be carried out to the firefighters and staff by the Fire Chief. They are the employer of the Fire Chief.
