I have ten years of experience as a teacher, 8 at the university level (Computer Science and Philosophy) and 2 in middle school (math). I am a highly skilled data base programmer; I am good at extracting data and analyzing it.
The district is obligated to comply with federal and state education policies.
The central issues that are facing our district relate to funding, safety and the quality of education. With respect to funding, the main thing that the board can do is to keep careful oversight over the budget and make sure that the necessary data is being supplied for analysis. With respect to safety, we can listen to parents and teachers, and try to advocate for augmenting policies if necessary. With respect to the quality of education, we can help set district goals. In particular, we can note that trends are going in the wrong direction and request that additional data points be made available if we feel that existing data does not allow the board to provide good guidance.
