I am a licensed attorney with an MBA (Stetson University). I am a small business owner with experience in business, real estate, recreation, and tourism. I have worked with multiple cities, County officials, and State Representatives on projects over the last twenty years. As a central Florida native and mother of four, I am vested in the success of our City.
I believe in a "ground up" approach to city business. The City officials must never forget that they serve the citizens who have elected and hired them for their respective positions. I believe in small government intentionally designed to protect the citizens' lives, liberties, and to ensure citizens are free to pursue happiness. Inclusion of the citizens in the public processes is key. I would like to see more access by the citizens to social media (turn comments "on") and response to citizens' emails and public comments.
I believe the Clermont code needs to be revisited so that there are varying opportunities for development available to would-be small developers. If we are going to create opportunities for young people and families, we need to allow small scale development that would support these demographics. A form-based code is one way to achieve this end.
I would also say "no" to large projects that require mega businesses to hold title. "Small is beautiful." Development should be adaptable, sustainable, and income-producing for the City (including infrastructure and ongoing maintenance).
I believe in family values: trust, honesty, and accountability. We must never forget that we are all neighbors and "never underestimate the collective power of individual choice." (J. Salatin).
I support the front line workers: public works, fire, police. These are our most important servicers from a governmental perspective and should be fairly and appropriately compensated and supported.
All development must be sustainable (see comments, above).
I want to see us intentional in seeking out small businesses to our community. Small business is the backbone of America and the key to solving our problems like traffic, increasing costs, and local entertainment demands.
