As a candidate for the Woodbury City Council, I believe my extensive commitment to serving our community, genuine love for our city, and leadership experience make me the best choice for this role. My commitment to community service is exemplified by my role as a founding member of the Multicultural Advisory Committee for Public Safety, six years of service as a commissioner on the the Parks and Natural Resource Commission and a number of other community boards and commissions. As a recognized unifier, I have always strived to bring people together to work towards common goals. My approach to leadership underscores the importance of collaboration, listening to diverse perspectives, and fostering an environment where everyone feels valued.
As a member of the Woodbury City Council, my top priorities will center on ensuring the highest quality of drinking water, enhancing public safety measures, promoting environmental stewardship, and upholding fiscal responsibility and transparency. I believe that through proactive decision-making and strong community engagement, we can create a thriving and sustainable environment for all residents.
Creating a truly inclusive community requires thoughtful action and engagement. It is essential that we recognize the diverse needs and aspirations of all residents, ensuring that everyone feels valued and heard. This means actively seeking out those whose voices may not have been historically represented in local governance, particularly in our decision-making processes. It is our responsibility to foster an environment where all individuals can participate in shaping the future of Woodbury.
The first step to transparency and accountability is to tell the truth in public and in private conversations. The second step is to willingly share any and all information that can be legally shared. I believe that a transparent government is a responsive government. By ensuring that our residents have confidence in the information we share, we can foster a more engaged and informed community. Together, we can strengthen the relationship between city government and residents.

I served for 7 years on two, council appointed commissions: Planning Commission & Economic Development. I built strong relationships with Council & city staff on strategic issues the city faces. I served on District 833 campaigns to expand the public schools. I participated as the northeast corridor move from a development idea to a full buildout. In business, I have 27-years of experience with an international manufacturer in a role that focuses on cost/quality/service management. This private sector experience provided my focus on process & cross functional team decision making that translates well into city government. I closely follow Council at Council Workshop and the general meetings. I have a bachelor’s & master degree.
1) Public safety – as top-rated issue in Woodbury’s community survey. The need for an expansion of the public safety campus is included. 2) Water implementation as we move from the water treatment plant plans to a full construction project that began this summer. The last pieces to finance this monumental project are yet to be finalized with the state legislature bonding process. 3) Growth management as we turn to the 2050 comprehensive planning process as led by the Met Council.
I take diverse to mean the multicultural society that we live in today. I've noted two city examples that I intend to emulate. I will continue to participate on social media on city issues and institute office hours at public places around the city. eMails sent to the city will be thoughtfully responded to. The city has listening sessions of diverse voices (like Central Park) that I would like to also participate in as a member of council.
Like with regular meetings, I strongly support an additional recording of Council Workshops – use the same process & retention schedule. They will illustrate member agendas. Workshops better illustrate the topics at hand and the thought processes behind the votes – “Sunlight is the best disinfectant.” I believe strongly in Directives memorializing a City Council code of conduct. I will work with the Council to enforce these directives & any supporting resolutions referencing said code.
I believe I am the best to serve because of my desire to serve coupled with my professional experience and volunteerism. I serve currently as the commissioner representing Woodbury on the Washington County Development Agency elected vice chair and on the board of directors for Community Action Partnership of Ramsey and Washington Counties. I lead Research Operations at a Fortune 500 company and with my varied experience I am able to to better understand and support the needs of my community now and into the future. I have also called Woodbury home for the last 18+ years with my family.

I am a long-time resident graduating from Woodbury High School in 1985. In 1993 I returned to Woodbury to raise my five kids. I have seen Woodbury grow from 15,000 to over 80,000 residents. I have been highly involved in the community: coaching, hockey board, election judge, homeschool mentor.
I am a current City Councilmember that brings to the table a different perspective on issues. I offer diversity of thought and experiences that would otherwise be missing, overlooked or unheard. I am open-minded while not compromising on values. I am accessible to the public. I offer common-sense solutions. I will continue to be a voice for responsible growth. I will continue my work for a more transparent and accountable government.
1. Recruiting, Retaining quality staff for our Public Safety Department. Our growing community expects a properly staffed public safety department to provide the caliber of care and emergency services our city needs.
2. Responsible Growth and adequate infrastructure funding for today and into the future. A growing city means more infrastructure such as plowing and parks, water and sewer.
3. A transparent and accountable city council providing minutes, live-stream and videos for the public
Remaining Open and Accessible is important. I currently hold open office hours called Coffee and Conversations with Councilmember Kim. These are held in a public space where I encourage residents to stop by and visit, offer suggestions, share compliments or express concerns. I will continue to meet with all residents to listen to their concerns over road rehab, transportation, pollution, parking situations. I attend neighborhood meetings where residents learn of the city's planned projects.
Currently, our city council has workshops. These are important informal meetings where we discuss issues that will be coming before us during a council meeting. These workshops are live-streamed but ARE NOT recorded and NO MINUTES ARE PRODUCED. I will continue to urge council to adopt a new policy that is in line with the MN statutes, and offers residents the opportunity to at least view minutes of the workshops. I would would like to see all videos retained and available for at least 1 year.
