Do you support election day voter registration? Why or why not?

What actions should the legislature take to address the climate emergency?

What should the legislature do to increase the supply of affordable and middle-market housing in Massachusetts?

What measures would you support to deal with the needs of the large number of immigrants coming to Massachusetts?

What are your priorities for dealing with transportation statewide and in your district?

I support election day voter registration because no voter's voice should be silenced.
The legislature should work to create new laws and provide funding for a transition to clean energy.
The legislature should pass laws to provide municipalities with the tools and funding to partner with the private sector to create a diverse variety of attainable units.
Everyone currently residing in Massachusetts should have access to the necessities of life regardless of their immigration status. However, we must make clear to immigrants that the Commonwealth does not currently have the capacity to continue to provide that access to so many people.
My first priority is obtaining funding to replace and maintain the aging Sagamore and Bourne Bridges which are in the 5th Barnstable District. I also believe we must invest the funding to modernize and expand our transportation infrastructure.
Every citizen in Massachusetts has an important right and civic duty to vote. This right is key to our democratic government. Early voting is one example of expanding ballot access and making it easier to vote. However, we also have a duty to protect the voter rolls and ensure that non-citizens are not allowed to vote and improperly influence our elections. The potential for fraud by allowing people to register to vote on Election Day is too great a risk to justify this policy. Therefore, I oppose same-day voter registration. To the extent some people require assistance with emergency registration, I would be open to exploring limited and carefully drafted legislation to protect their rights if needed.
I am committed to protecting our environment. I've worked with local property owners concerned about erosion and have defended our water quality. Our aquifer is a vital resource, and I've met with local governments and homeowners to address wastewater issues. It's crucial to balance environmental protection with the health, safety, and welfare of our residents. I support developing renewable clean energy in our region. I have concerns about bringing high-voltage offshore wind energy ashore across our beaches and through residential neighborhoods. I believe that with proper planning and state oversight, we can achieve our renewable energy goals in a way that aligns with the best interests of everyone on Cape Cod.
I'll tell you one thing we should NOT do - raise taxes. Many on Beacon Hill believe placing surcharges on property sales will help address affordability. I disagree. Instead, we need to take bold steps to improve our economy so that more people have money to realize the American Dream of owning their own home. I am proud to serve on the board of Cape Cod Habitat for Humanity, where we work to increase our affordable housing stock in partnership with needy families. I have also worked hard with our veteran population to make sure that needy veterans have a place of their own to call home in their later years. This is a challenge for our entire Commonwealth to address and I believe an important one for us to keep working on as we go forward.
While I wholeheartedly support legal immigration into our country, I believe a combination of an open federal border and generous benefit policies have facilitated illegal immigration into our country. These effects are being felt right here on Cape Cod, where a flood of migrants have been housed in hotels, motels, and at Joint Base Cape Cod. Our Right to Shelter Law, which was originally intended to support citizens of our state in times of need, alongside other benefits such as drivers licenses, has served as a magnet for these individuals to come here. This has resulted in risks to public health and safety, and to a system where local resources are being stretched beyond capacity and is unsustainable.
Transportation is an important issue for Cape residents. The biggest project facing us is the replacement of the Cape Cod Canal bridges. I fully support this project, and we need to make sure the projects are undertaken with care and concern for local impacts. The new bridges and new interchanges will greatly improve traffic flow, safety, and reduce congestion. I've supported robust Chapter 90 state road funds to help support local transit and I also have called for the state to support local efforts to fix dangerous intersections, improve crosswalks, and provide bike and multi use paths in our towns so accidents don't occur and people can travel and improve their health and recreation opportunities.
