The immediate crisis is lack of affordable housing. However, the long term challenge, which impacts every aspect of Maine life is the effect of climate change on our environment, our people, and the future of our children.
I will have contacts in all town governments to let me know of issues that arise. I will send out regular newsletters to constituents, including all contact information. I will attend town meetings in my area and make myself available before and after. I will agree to participate in forums and town hall meetings that are organized in a fair and non-partisan manner. When invited, I will participate in any school related activities focussing on government, civics, or democratic institutions. I will be available to all constituent groups in my district, regardless of party.
The current crisis in housing will require a targeted and multi-faceted approach to making housing more affordable. Young people looking for their first home, seniors who wish to remain in their communities, the unhoused, and those suffering from addiction and economic insecurity require a variety of solutions. These solutions need to be timely, but also aimed at a sustainable future. I support sustainable development, co-housing initiatives, rent stabilization, and programs which allow Maine’s older housing stock to be upgraded and made more efficient allowing people to remain in their homes.
As a mother, grandmother, retired teacher, foster parent, caregiver and advocate for women's rights, I will always prioritize Maine families, our environment, and the rights of all Mainers to quality health care, education and access to services. I have spent my life in professions which aim to provide healthier and happier lives for families and for individuals and to provide for a more productive and just society. My many years of work and life experience have given me a perspective on what fair, efficient, and responsive government should be.
