I think the biggest challenge is government spending. We need to cut where we can. We have one of the worst tax burdens in the United States. People can no longer afford to live here and because of high costs in utilities, it is no longer a business friendly location. New businesses would mean more tax dollars for programs we need.
By communicating with them. Too many feel they are not being heard. If they feel that way, they are not going to be engaged. People have become apathetic when it comes to politics and therefore not actively engaged in their communities.
We need to make it easier for businesses (builders) to build housing. Red tape and high costs for permits, raises the costs and in some cases prevents houses from ever being started.
I plan to be accessible to my constituents! I want to be the ear that they have been wanting. I plan to keep them informed as to what is taking place in Augusta and I will do all I can to represent ALL of my district to the best of my ability.

A shortage of affordable housing, and the high cost of living. In addition, I'm concerned about flavored tobacco products being marketed to young people, and believe we would benefit from more gun safety legislation, such as the bump-stock bill recently vetoed by Gov. Mills.
I encourage everyone to vote! Along with Sen. Nicole Grohoski, I've held conversations with voters, and I've recently met with constituents regarding the location of a proposed new Court House in Ellsworth.
As I have done in the 131st Legislature, I will continue to support legislation such as the housing investments passed by the legislature on April 18 and signed by the governor on April 22. Among several housing provisions, the budget invests $20 million in new funding for affordable housing development and $18 million to pilot a rent relief program to prevent evictions and keep more residents stably housed.
I serve on the Education Committee where I sponsored LD 2131, “An Act to Support Extended Learning Opportunities,” which has passed and was signed by Gov. Mills this year. Basically, the law allows high school students to get credit for hands on experience similar to an internship. Examples include a young woman working directly with an engineer who is building a bridge downstate, and students working with an oyster farm in Jonesport-Beals. I have opposed banning books, and also opposed arming teachers. I have voted for higher salaries for teachers, ed techs, and support staff such as bus drivers and kitchen staff.
