While there are many challenges facing Maine, two of the most pressing issues are the lack of affordable housing and lack of sustainable career options for residents across the entire state.
In this time of the 24 hour news cycle and general media overload, it is essential to connect with constituents in a more direct and personal manner as a means to encourage greater civic engagement. Cutting through the noise to provide community members with accurate and relevant information will help to foster a greater sense of empowerment as they prepare to volunteer, campaign, and vote.
As a Maine Senate Candidate, I am committed to working with community leaders, local organizations, and others to engage in outreach efforts that will amplify messages about civic engagement and am happy to meet with constituents of all ages to ensure they have the information and support needed to engage in meaningful ways.
The issue of affordable housing is one that touches all areas of our state and is one that will require ongoing, collaborative efforts between federal, state, and local agencies if we wish to reduce barriers to renting and homeownership. As part of these collaborative efforts, we will need to address the increasing costs associated with building new housing, be open to re-evaluating zoning regulations, and more.
As a candidate and elected official I believe in collaboration and communication. As a City Councilor and a two-term Mayor in the City of Brewer I have worked to have the voices of all my constituents heard. Our elected bodies must work together to achieve the goal of keeping Maine a wonderful place to live.
