What do you see as the greatest challenges facing Maine right now?

We have a lot of hopelessness and family stress. Our young people are worried about the future. We see the effects of climate disruption and don't know what to do. We have to see a future that is bright and be working toward that future. Education needs to be affordable and housing needs to be available and affordable
I have seen more interest in this election, which is encouraging. I think people need to see what is possible. One of things that I have been personally working on is a large rewilding project in Skowhegan, restoring an ecosystem on a 27 year old property. I started a horticultural program at the High School with a teacher. We arranged a work day with kids planting native perennials on the field, had a plant sale at our Farmer's Market to raise money for our local land trust and taught a lot of people about the advantages of native perennials and the role they play in helping pollinators and birds in our community.
This is a major problem. Section 8 vouchers have been scarce for years and expanding them would help. Thinking outside the box on expanding places to live (like encouraging people to rent out rooms, putting in accessory buildings in their backyards or converting garages to living space) might be helpful. Looking at buildings that are deserted and having incentives to convert them to housing might be helpful (like old shopping malls, motels, etc).
My biggest areas of expertise and interest are health care issues (since I am a retired physician) and the environment. I am good at creative problem solving and thinking outside of the box and have always worked hard to help my community.
