The greatest challenges include the rising cost of living, the lack of safe and affordable housing and the need for additional resources and support for working families.
Currently, I make myself accessible to my constituents and encourage people to become involved in our community. I provide information about how to register to vote and polling locations. This year, school-based volunteer groups will acknowledged by me with a letter of thanks to the participants. My hope is that by acknowledging their work, students will get even more engaged in their community. I also send regular communications via either text or mail about upcoming events and ways to get involved.
The affordable housing crisis will need to be addressed with several tools. I believe one critical way to free up existing housing stock is to encourage and incentivize affordable senior housing units to be developed. Many seniors hang onto family homes because they want to remain in their community, even though these homes may become difficult to maintain for them. More senior housing options would allow adults to transition to more appropriate housing. I plan to sponsor or support a bill that incentivizes developers to create affordable senior housing.
I am running for State Senate to help ensure that thoughtful laws are made so that my family and friends can support themselves and their families, live without fear and have the resources they need to live healthy and happy lives. I strongly support our LGBTQ+ community, womens' reproductive health care rights, resources for people living with substance use disorder and access to affordable health care. I grew up in Augusta, went to college in Maine and moved back home after attending graduate school. I served on the Augusta city council and am currently in the Maine House of Representatives. I am a self-employed economic development consultant and the proud mother of two amazing sons.
