As our national politics becomes more and more polarized, all of us need to find ways to turn down the temperature of our national discourse and build bridges, rather than burn them down. While we can never waver on our values, we must find ways to disagree without hyperbole. For my part, I believe that most Members of Congress want to do right by their constituents and the American People, and I will continue to focus on what’s best for Maine and work with anyone who will help improve Mainers’ lives — even if I oppose them on another issue the next day.

Part of the Inflation Reduction Act, which I supported, included resources to grow clean energy development across the country. But we cannot shock the system in a way that raises costs or guts jobs. That’s why I support an all-of-the-above energy policy of adding renewable energy production while reducing reliance on the dirtiest and most carbon intensive energy sources, while ensuring that this transition does not harm rural communities and those with colder climates for whom the current technology cannot adequately serve. No climate change policy will be implemented overnight, and it’s critical to ensure people aren't harmed, that the heating oil so many Mainers rely on is available and affordable, for example.
The solution to the housing crisis is supply, supply, supply. Most of the work that must be done is at the state and local level, but the federal government has a key role to play in helping ensure housing is affordable and in cracking down on predatory lending, to name just a few areas.
I believe the court's decision in the Dobbs case was a grave mistake, wrong both on the merits and in principle. As a result, millions of women have lost reproductive freedoms and new battle lines are being drawn on everything from IVF to contraception. I support enshrining Roe v. Wade as federal law. That’s why I supported the Women’s Health Protection Act and the Ensuring Access to Abortion Act. I will continue to support reproductive freedom.
