Like many cities, we have a shortage of housing--particularly affordable and workforce housing. We also have a backlog of delayed infrastructure work: streets, sidewalks, and the need for new infrastructure to support housing development and growth; Growing and changing needs for the unhoused and anti-poverty work with our county partners and sustainable structure and funding for our Fire, Life Safety and Public Safety--I have worked to help create housing at every level in Springfield and am excited at both our newest neighborhoods in Ward 3, and affordable housing being built through partnerships and creativity. I've encouraged the city to start a land banking program--buying land to help jumpstart affordable, workforce housing
I have spent my career working in human services--in both nonprofit and government. I have a deep understanding of the importance of relationships and sustainable funding and processes in order to continue to move Springfield forward. As a city in transition, I believe that my experience in navigating transitions, building collaborative partnerships, and focusing on creative and affordable solutions are a strength in representing the needs of my fellow Sprinfielders.
I am a strong proponent of public meetings and truth-telling, along with making extra effort to reach residents for feedback and involvement. I will continue what has been a focus for me over the past few years: encouraging plain, accessible language; diversifying outreach; ensuring we take time to reach people who may not otherwise be in the room or at the table. We have a long way to go to hold ourselves authentically accountable to the residents of Springfield.
