Homelessness and Drugs are two of the challenges facing Josephine County. I believe that if we truly want to solve these problems, we need a multifaceted approach. We need to make drugs illegal again, incarcerate repeat offenders, require drug rehab, vocational rehab, and accountability. We need mental health holds & access to treatment facilities. Along with these, we need both tiny and small home communities to be developed as well as workforce housing. The third greatest challenges is our economy, we need a replacement for our dying timber industry. Jo Co has many minerals that can be extracted, our Hemp industry is underutilized, and new businesses need a drug free, trained, available workforce which ties back into our housing needs.
The values I hold are qualities not many candidates have, I am authentic, Authenticity is the quality that makes me genuine and not corrupted like others we've had in office. My other qualities are compassion, honesty, integrity, resilience and I have a great sense of community. I believe that having a sense of community helps us feel connected to others, as well as feel that we are part of something larger than ourselves. As for experience, I have spent the last 2+ years attending most of the Commissioner meetings (Tue. Legal, Wed. Business, and Thur. Workshop) learning the inner workings of not only the BCC, but the entire county. I have established a great rapport with the department heads and other employees. I am on the RPC and JHCDC.
I believe the county should support and encourage both tiny and small home communities as well as workforce housing developments. This is also the time to entice the State into removing restrictions on building in rural areas. Meeting with State Legislators and lobbying to remove some of the restrictions that SB100 placed on rural communities will help in addressing the supply of housing in Josephine County. There are also many alternative septic styles that could assist in adding housing in outlying areas if the zones were changed to RR1 or .5, increasing density in those areas. I grew up on a 1/4 acre in Murphy, we need to allow those types of rural communities to be developed again. This is what I will support when I am elected.

1. Ensuring our community's safety, I have worked in the past on funding mechanisms and will continue to work on supporting law enforcement. 2. We have a homeless crisis in our community. I will work with organizations that support & implement programs for homeless and resources with respect to the rights of property owners and tax dollars. We need common sense solutions. 3. Expanding mental health services is a critical resource needed to overcome the results of Measure 110. We need a comprehensive approach that involves all the stakeholders. 4. Economic Development, we need to look at how we can strengthen our community by attracting and supporting business. Create jobs and support education.

My lifelong commitment of being involved in our community makes me the most qualified candidate for Josephine County Commissioner. I have owned my own business and worked closely with various business sectors both large and small my entire career. My career as CEO of Grants Pass & Josephine County Chamber of Commerce and most recently at Oregon State Chamber where I actively supported professional development and advocacy efforts in a variety of industry sectors. I have served on several government affairs committees concerning local, county and state issues. I have a pragmatic approach to shaping policies that affect people, property, and their rights. My focus is on fiscal responsibility, looking for ways to be efficient.
To support the housing needs we need less regulations put in place. As commissioner we need to advocate to the state on the multitude of issues that inhibit the growth of construction and resources. We need to approach it with sensible and affordable ways. In addition, we need to support the trades to get workforce to support the construction industry.
