Currently, I am working with communities and environmental advocates on legislations to address environmental justice and the involvement of our community voices in land use and permitting, such that industrialization/business development do not neglect the livability and health of our neighborhoods, especially when it involves the health of our seniors, children and the most vulnerable.
Yes with clarification. Even under a Democratic majority, many of my Democratic colleagues were redrawn out of their districts (eg Senator Dembrow) or made less advantageous (eg. Former Rep Wilde, former Rep Reardon and Rep Hoa Nguyen). Any system may be biased with unintended consequences. The set up of an independent redistricting commission would need to be such that money can not buy a position on the commission, people like Phil Knight can not sign a check to influence the outcomes and transparency by Oregonians needs to be accessible.
Yes. A walkout of a few legislators must not stop the work of our state. Our state legislature needs to do its job, make policies, fix broken/outdated policies, hear our citizens voices/issues/concerns, budget/fund our agencies (to name a few of its duties). Procedure for debates and compromising exists. Once debated, work/voting needs to happen and a result determined . No more stonewalling from the few.
