Description of office: The General Assembly is the legislative branch of government in Pennsylvania. It is composed of two houses: the Senate is the upper house, and the House of Representatives is the lower house. A majority vote in both houses is necessary to pass a law. The PA House of Representatives consists of 203 members representing one district each, with an equal number of constituents. Representatives must be at least 21 years old, have been a citizen and a resident of the state four years and a resident of their respective districts one year before their election, and shall reside in their respective districts during their terms of service. The House develops budget packages, makes taxation decisions, allocates spending, and passes laws (including redistricting in collaboration with the Senate). The House also has the exclusive authority to impeach public officials. Representatives also serve on various policy committees that may propose legislation. Public Service - Army Veteran, a West Goshen Twp. Supervisor, a Correctional Officer & Counselor, a Public Defender attorney, volunteer Teacher, a County Recorder of Deeds and a State Representative. I have successfully legislated, managed and balanced multimillion dollar government budgets.
Jobs, Infrastructure, the Environment, Voting Rights, Public Education Funding, Business Development, Gun Safety Laws, Women’s Reproductive rights, LGBTQ+ rights, regulating Artificial Intelligence, a minimum wage increase, and the Defense of our Democratic Republic are all in need of immediate attention. Despite a one seat majority, our Caucus was able to pass over 200 bills that tried to address most of these issues and more. Unfortunately, of those 200+ bills we passed, 165 of them have been blocked by the State Senate leadership. I will continue to press for legislation that addresses these priorities. These are challenging times, and we must fight to ensure the future of our Democracy by promptly taking on all these issues and more.
Explicitly Codify Automatic Voter Registration at PennDOT with my proposed bill HB2058 thus protecting the Governor’s successful Executive order. Amend Act 77 to count mail in ballots before election day to avoid confusion and ensure every eligible vote counts without delays that lead to costly, misguided, post-election litigation. Other changes include: expand early voting with increased, secure drop off boxes and on-site voter services, make election day a state holiday, implement same day voter registration, increase requirements in our school civics curriculum to educate students on the voting process, conduct ongoing mandatory audits to protect against election tampering and hacking, and invest in modern, safe election technology.
In short, the Court found the quality of education a PA student receives depends upon their zip code. This violates our PA Constitutional guarantee of equal education. As such, I support Gov. Shapiro’s proposed 2024-25 budget as a great start including a historic investment of nearly $1.1 billion increase in basic education funding. Democrats have long championed investing in our public schools because we recognize education as a fundamental right for every Pennsylvania child. That is why I support legislation to invest $5 billion to close funding gaps to ensure all students can succeed; $1.4 billion in new funding for all schools; $1billion cut in property taxes for hardest hit areas; and $2.1 billion to fix and repair our schools.
I strongly believe that reproductive choice is the foundation of freedom, both legally and economically for all women. I seek to champion policies and legislation that empower personal autonomy and vigorously defend access to affordable health care to include women's choice and reproductive rights. I will vehemently oppose anti-abortion policy measures, such as past PA Senate Bill 106 which aims to amend the Pennsylvania State Constitution and ultimately ban abortion in our Commonwealth. Voters deserve to know exactly where their candidates stand on this issue. As a State Representative, I have co-sponsored several House Bills, to include HB1888, to protect and expand reproductive freedom. A vote for me = A vote for reproductive choice.
