Because 4th-grade performance can indicate whether foundational skills have been adequately established, I'm most concerned about the significant academic disparities between certain groups of students, those critical gaps in foundational skills is troubling. Addressing academic disparities and planning for future success would involve a multi-faceted approach that targets the underlying causes and promotes equity in education could be one solution. As a legislator, I'd advocate for appropriate policies and studies, including allocating funding in a way that addresses the disparities in educational resources and in a way that provides more helpful opportunities in schools, particularly those serving high-need communities.
Nebraska is an ag state, as such runoff, industrial pollution and aging infrastructure probably contribute to our water systems and our ability to have clean water. These issues are compounded by regulatory and funding constraints, making comprehensive solutions difficult; starting with infrastructure updating, stricter environmental regulations and using sustainable farming practices might be good starting places in ensuring clean, safe water.
Focusing on a single issue is difficult, but property taxes emerge as a major concern for many Nebraskans, including myself. They've risen to levels that are becoming unsustainable, putting homeowners, especially those in economically vulnerable positions, at risk of losing their homes. This situation is further complicated by predatory buyers and the acquisition of tax certificates for unpaid taxes, which poses a significant threat to the poor, uninformed, elderly, and disabled. It's a pressing issue that needs urgent attention.

My primary concern regarding K-12 education in Nebraska revolves around the persistent underachievement of students within my district. I firmly believe that it's imperative to overhaul our approach to education comprehensively. Crucially, this overhaul should align with the needs of our modern society and focus on offering equitable opportunities to students and communities that have historically been underserved.
I support legislation aimed at eradicating all lead pipes throughout the state, with particular emphasis on my district. Extensive research has demonstrated the detrimental effects of lead on brain development and overall health. I am open to exploring alternative solutions that can yield positive impacts in addressing this issue.
The paramount challenge confronting our state is the imperative to define our identity and aspirations. It's crucial to determine who we are and what we envision for our state's future. Additionally, we must focus on fostering balanced growth that extends beyond eastern Nebraska, ensuring equitable development across all areas of our state.
