Retired Programmer Analyst in Insurance Industry for 40 years. 40-year Brookline resident, Town Meeting Member since 2010. Active with League of Women Voters, supporter of Representative Town Meeting. Endorsed by PAX and Brookline By Design. Member of Water & Sewer Rate Task Force. Cost of Brookline water adds 10% to property taxes that is passed on to condominium owners and renters who do not see bills. As a basic need, economically challenged residents should have lower rates. Interested in moderate neighborhood changes for which sufficient opportunity has been given to the residents to comment. Town must inform residents affected by plans, such as Complete Streets, and other neighborhood changes, with participation encouraged.
A principal responsibility of Town Meeting Members should be to be aware of happenings in their precinct and the town and communicating those matters to affected constituents. These matters especially include housing and structural demolitions and developments, roadway deteriorations and improvements, and dangers to drivers and pedestrians. As a dense precinct, with many multi-family structures, parking for our elderly and handicapped residents is critical. Town Meeting Members should be a conduit, connecting the town departments and constituents, providing notice of public hearings regarding those events. To encourage that communication, I intend to resurrect the Coolidge Corner SouthSide (CCSS) Neighborhood Association.

I am running for Town Meeting in P7 to represent my neighborhood as the Town faces several challenges, including the current budget shortfall. I will continue to support and advocate for Pierce School project because it is essential to this community. Precinct 7 is also included in the MBTA-CA zoning that was enacted last November and I’d like to continue to be involved as development in accordance with the zoning begins. Furthermore, I’ll stay engaged as the Planning Board examines other changes to our Zoning By-laws to incentivize multi-family development and we start the Comprehensive Plan process.

Brookline resident since 1996; Advisory Committee member; Former PTO President; Technology Professional; Nonprofit Board Member
As a town meeting member, my responsibility is to serve as a voice and advocate for the residents of my precinct. I believe strongly in transparent and accessible local government that is responsive to the needs and concerns of residents. While I may have my own views and principles, I would make a concerted effort to understand the diverse perspectives and lived experiences of people in my precinct. I'd engage with neighbors in person, at events, and via email to seek their input and share information.

Brookline resident since 1977. Town meeting member 1993-95, 2006-present. Library Trustee 2005-present. Trial lawyer representing plaintiffs in employment-discrimination and civil rights matters. Condominium owner. Proud to be endorsed by Brookline PAX and Brookline by Design.
As Town Meeting Members we have a responsibility to the precinct, but also to the entire town. Precinct 7 is one of the most densely populated, which gives me a particular view about proposals for still greater density in North Brookline even as I recognize the need for more housing, particularly for those who are not wealthy (development has been concentrated mainly on high-priced units). The town also faces serious financial challenges, which will mean making hard choices. For instance, the schools' budget presently takes more than 60% of total town spending. Can we continue that, or do we need to re-think our strategy? (As a Library Trustee, I am keenly aware that the library takes only about 1% of the town budget.)

My husband and I became renters in Precinct 7 in 2019. We chose Brookline based on its excellent public school system and vibrant, diverse community. I am currently a stay-at-home parent of two young children, ages five and two, eldest of whom will enter Pierce Elementary School as a kindergartener in fall 2024. Some of the issues I care deeply about are support of our public schools and teachers unions, affordable houses at all levels of income, racial and ethnic diversity and inclusion in our town, and aggressive measures to combat and mitigate the effects of climate change.
If elected to Town Meeting, I believe my responsibility will be to reflect the consensus of my precinct. I will aim to stay informed on local initiatives and upcoming statues, and work to disseminate such information to my neighbors and community members I meet. I will strive to be open and receptive to all opinions brought to me by constituents and will endeavor to promote their concerns in the arena of Town Meeting where I can.

I grew up in Maplewood, New Jersey. I have lived in Brookline since 1997 and on Littell Road since 1998. My wife and I have two children, now adults, who went to the Lawrence School and BHS. We chose to settle in Brookline when we moved to the Boston area, seeing it as nearly unique among American communities for its combination of excellent schools, density and walkability, and easy access to my Back Bay job and the cultural offerings of Boston. I am an attorney who represents book publishers and authors. Before starting my own practice several years ago, I worked as in-house counsel for a Boston-based publisher for 20 years.

This is my first time running for Town Meeting. I have been endorsed by Brookline for Everyone.
I am running to help solve the problem of Brookline's housing affordability crisis, and would view my responsibility to P7 as supporting all measures to do so. We are in danger of becoming a town where only the very wealthiest (or fortunate incumbent homeowners) can afford to live, the polar opposite of the diverse, inclusive community most of us want Brookline to be. As a Town Meeting member, I would work to eliminate the barriers that prevent or delay the construction of more housing for all income levels, especially near public transit.

If elected, I will listen respectfully to the folks in Precinct 7, whether they agree or disagree with my views, via phone calls, emails, newsletters, social media, or any other way they wish.

Working for change with B4E and GBIO. Issues concerning all aspects of our lives come before Town Meeting. I will listen to the Select Board, and study the TM Warrant. I wish to advocate for my constituents, but will hear all points of view, read and ask questions so as to make thoughtful contributions, and seek change with constructive compromise. After growing up in Schenectady, New York, I attended Clarkson University and Syracuse University earning degrees in Engineering and Management and Biochemistry, respectively. I moved to Brookline in 2002 to attend Tufts Medical School, where I earned a Ph.D. in Biochemistry. My family and I moved into our house on Harris Street in 2014, where my wife and I are both scientists in the biotech industry, and my daughter is a 5th grader at Pierce Elementary School.
My responsibility to my precinct is to use my best judgement and try to bring a long-term perspective to the critical issues facing our town. It's important to know my precinct and its demographics, starting with my own neighborhood, and the friends, neighbors, and fellow parents at Pierce School, and those who live in the broader community. Our Precinct already has a distribution of TMMs in a variety of living situations (owners and renters, single and multifamily homes) and I am already in close contact with some and look forward to getting to know others. Adding to those, I am committed to actively engaging with the residents in my precinct, listening to their feedback and concerns, and advocating for their interests.

My work and educational background is in Physics and Electrical Engineering which I've used to work to build the national grid to accommodate green energy. Currently working at a battery storage company in Boston. Active in political campaigns, local, state and national activism since 1992. Addressing the Climate Crisis and the Housing Crisis are my top concerns and recently, mitigating the impacts to Brookline residents from skyrocketing antisemitism and Islamophobia, impacting students, employees and those that have had their safety threatened. Endorsed by Brookline for Everyone and Brookline Equity Coalition
I believe it is the responsibility of town meeting members to actively engage residents in the neighborhood; particularly those who are impacted by policies debated; and encouraging them to have their voice heard.

“We have to move to Coolidge Corner, it’s the best place to live in or around Boston.” My roommate said this to me as I moved back to Boston after 6 years in DC. 2 years later, my roommate and I were having serious conversations about moving out due to how expensive it is to live in Brookline. Coolidge Corner is still the best place to live in the Boston area (and I am more than happy to tell everyone I meet about it). However, we need to make sure Brookline remains a destination for young renters like me - people who are starting out building careers and lives. People who don’t have access to the kind of income needed to live in town because they’re getting priced out. I'm proud to be their voice through May and endorsed by PAX and BBD.
First and foremost, my responsibility to my precinct will be to help make Brookline a more affordable place to live. We can't continue down our current path of pricing almost everyone out. If we truly want to be an inclusive place to live, we need more young people and more renters on Town Meeting. In terms of engaging with my constituents, I plan to have an open door policy with my neighbors in Precinct 7. I've made my information publicly available and I plan to do outreach specifically to young people who rent. I also plan to make sure I'm the voice of as many kinds of people who live in my precinct - while I will have a focus in a certain area, I will make a concerted effort to be accessible to everyone.

Born in Boston, raised in Newton, Max Newell has lived in Brookline continuously since 1997. Partner to Amy Newell and father to two children (one teenager, one adult). Max first decided to run for Town Meeting in 2023 because of his longstanding interest in housing and transportation policy and how they both can be used to advance socioeconomic justice and greener living. He served as TMM to replace a departing member in the second half of 2023, and is now running for a full three-year seat. Max has been endorsed by Brookline For Everyone and the Brookline Equity Coalition.
I believe that town meeting members have the responsibility not only to represent our own precinct's immediate interests but also to consider the larger values that the voters elected them for. Active participation in the neighborhood and responding to and engaging with folks whether because they reached out about town business or because we just get to talking on the street is important. I support the work of Brookline Equity Coalition and Brookline for Everyone in engaging about important town topics within and across precincts, and I'm actively keeping up with and involved in our townwide FB as well.
