I am a current Town Meeting representative for Precinct 5 serving a two-year term. Subhadra and I are Brookline homeowners for 24 years with 3 children educated in the Brookline public schools. We absolutely love our neighborhood – and Brookline. I am active in The Greater Point Neighborhood Association and an officer on the Board (Secretary) for the past 9 years. I am an IT professional with specialization in HR & Talent Management technology platforms and services.
We need representatives in town government who are thoughtful, open-minded and ready to listen and learn – and this is how I think of myself. My hope is to represent people’s priorities and concerns in Precinct 5. This means that I need to be accessible and a familiar face in the neighborhood. It is important to me to participate in all neighborhood events -- and to be reachable by email and phone. The issues we face as a town require all of us to avoid “taking sides” and to instead be open to dialogue and finding the right balance that will work for Brookline.

I grew up in Cleveland Ohio and have lived in Ann Arbor, Michigan, Princeton, New Jersey, Ferrara, Italy and Brookline since 2015. I have 3 children - 2 at Lincoln and 1 at BHS. I studied Chemistry and Biology at Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland and I have a PhD in Neuropharmacology from the University of Ferrara (Italy). I currently work in a Research organization as a Translational Scientist, working on developing medicines for Alzheimer's, Parkinson's and other rare neurological diseases. In Town I have coached Rec soccer and play the bass guitar in a neighborhood dad band called the Grateful Dads.
Town Meeting Members should generally have views that reflect the overall attitudes of the precinct they represent. Many people in precinct 5 have the same types of concerns of the majority in Brookline, i.e. ensuring schools are appropriately funded, access to affordable housing, and improving racial equity in our town. I think TMMs should do a better job engaging with the renter community in Brookline which make up 51% of our population. I will continue communicating with constituents (friends and neighbors) through face-to-face interactions at neighborhood gatherings as well during Precinct 5 specific events.

Brookline resident for a decade with three children at Lincoln School, I've transitioned from renting in the Point area to homeownership. Understanding the hurdles young families encounter in purchasing homes, I run a business that assists them with financial aspects of home buying, aiming to make a meaningful difference family by family. Now, I'm committed to leveraging my experiences to better Brookline for everyone.
Brookline's education system is key to attracting families, necessitating continued school investment. However, despite significant efforts, our schools are not meeting our high standards or fully nurturing each child's potential. It's crucial to monitor educational content and methods. I support rebuilding Pierce School and advocating for fair compensation for school staff, stressing the importance of preserving resources crucial for students' growth.

A resident of the Greater Point neighborhood in Brookline since 1993, with two daughters who attended Lincoln School and BHS, I also bring many years of experience working in policy analysis, program evaluation, and communications. I have applied my Ph.D. from Brandeis to leadership in education as well as afterschool and philanthropy, and I now have the capacity, energy, and time to lend my hand at making our town a better place.
I am running for Town Meeting for one reason--to serve my community. I will engage with my constituents by being present in neighborhood locations, holding coffees where folks can share their thoughts and concerns, and sending email updates to those who want to hear from me. I am committed to listening, learning, and doing all I can to maintain and enhance our ethnically, racially, economically diverse neighborhood.
I believe that with open dialogue and compassionate listening we have much to learn from each other. We can find common areas of agreement and solve problems.

My name is Alok Somani and my wife, two children and our dog Baozi moved to Brookline in 2019 after completing an expat assignment in China. I am an engineer by training and am a small business owner.
I have been fortunate through my service on the Advisory Committee and community engagement to listen, understand and participate in discussing the many topics that are important to the Brookline and P5 community.
What I hear most is how much people enjoy living in Brookline and treasure the schools, but that affordable housing is a serious concern.
I am endorsed by PAX and Brookline by Design.
I serve on the Advisory Committee and pay attention to Select Board activity. Nothing is perfect but both seem to work. And Town staff are dedicated and hard-working. What might improve is Town Meeting and specifically the decisions made there.
I will seek to vote objectively, in the best long-term interest of the Town and P5. I am committed to sharing the pros and cons of topics under consideration and seeking out and representing the views of P5 residents.
Our main challenge seems to be that we have many initiatives each addressing an important issue - schools, public safety, building and road maintenance, parks, affordable housing, zoning reform, senior centers, etc. But revenue is limited and primarily from property tax.
