School board members determine how the district functions, including approving the budget, curriculum, and school zones. They hire and evaluate the Director of Schools. The school board is responsible for adopting the policies that are followed throughout the school system. The policies they approve follow federal and state laws.

I see the main responsibility is to work in partnership with the board, parents, educators and the community providing a leadership standard of excellence with an atmosphere of working together focused on the best interest of all children.
There are multiple challenges facing our children, parents and educators. School safety, student behavior, the recruiting and retaining of qualified teachers, student and teacher health and wellness, socio-economic, community involvement, population growth, just to name a few, are challenges that deter student learning,
By collaborating with the board, parents, educators and community, I plan to be actively involved utilizing those resources around the common goal – whole child success for all children. It is my goal to listen to parent and educator concerns, work with the board to connect community support so our children may thrive now and in the future. I have faith the solutions to our challenges can be found within the citizens of Rutherford County.
