I am running for Assessor of Property because I am demonstrably the most qualified candidate. I have the knowledge and experience to ensure that assessments will be fair and accurate. I was elected by the people to serve as Property Assessor in 2008 and reelected in 2012 after earning the citizen's trust. The role of the Assessor of Property is important in that they become an advocate and ambassador for every member of the public. They must utilize all of the talents, skills, and assets at their disposal, including training their staff and implementing technology to create a skilled and professional team and foster an environment of excellent customer service.
The first goal I would like to accomplish would be to actively place all our employees into the "Assessment Certification and Education Program" offered by the State of Tennessee's Comptroller. Proper training and certification is the best way to ensure the most accurate and fair home appraisals for every citizen.

Secondly, I would review, update and improve the office's technology. Providing modern tools to employees is necessary for accuracy and efficiency in the reappraisal process. I have a proven track record in staying ahead of the technology curve. I created the first property assessment website for Knox County, which is still used extensively. I oversaw the conversion of 330,000 paper files to the computer. Plus many other changes.
I would accomplish the professional development goal with a two-pronged approach. First, by enrolling the staff in the Tennessee State Board of Equalization certification and education program as provided by law. The second phase would be to enroll them in the International Association of Assessing Officers professional education designation program and encourage all employees to acquire relevant certifications and designations.

The technology improvement goal would be accomplished by a thorough review and assessment of current systems to identify areas needing improvement.

Because I have a thorough understanding of what types of technologies are needed to assist staff, I would be able to make the best and most cost-effective choices.

I’m passionate about serving the people and our citizens deserve an Assessor’s office that’s open, honest, fair, and accessible. I’m also running to ensure that the office continues to provide the highest level of professionalism and technical assistance to the public and to make sure that every property owner is treated fairly, equitably, and respectful regardless of whether it’s a small business, large corporation or residential home. I have the experience, work ethic, & leadership skills to continue moving the office forward with education and training, prompt courteous service and the latest technology. I am ready to serve on Day One as your next Assessor of Property and first female Assessor of Property.
One major goal of mine is to be even more accessible and open up a better line of communication between the Assessor and the public so that the people better understand our office, and our role and duties. I plan to do that through various social media platforms and community meetings. Another goal is to see that our staff continues with their education and training. The covid pandemic got us sidetracked and off schedule because the classes were shut down for a year or more, and then we went through reappraisal and we needed all boots on the ground to get the job done.
1. I would open up communication through social media, and community meetings. I will also make myself available in the evening. I am in the office everyday except during vacation so I am very accessible during the work week and have an open door policy already in place. I invite the public to come and talk with me anytime or if you’re physically not able to come downtown I will make arrangements to meet you somewhere else. 2. We do have an incredible experienced staff in place, but we also have a younger generation in the office. I want to work with the State’s Division of Property Assessments to get more classes scheduled in Knoxville so we are able to send more people for training without costing the county a tremendous amount of money.
