A proven business owner with hands-on experience managing budgets and solving complex operational challenges and interpretating financial reports. The ability to communicate clearly and effectively through public speaking and written correspondence. A previous elected official with grant administration responsibility and a community leader serving on several not-for-profit organizations. The unrelenting ability to advocate for the underserved and low income and a steward of taxpayer's funds with a commitment to transparency and accountability.
There is no correlation between the quality of education and unfettered subsidy; the private sector and parochial systems are better at the return on the education investment; there is a reason parents are exiting the public education system on behalf of their children. Approximately 41% of property taxes in Vanderburgh are allocated to public education. The local contribution from property taxes is less than the Federal and State appropriations provided. State Board of Accounts reports indicate there is opportunity to decrease expenses to balance the budget while simultaneously supporting a quality of education to students. There are several budget opportunities to cut unnecessary expenses.
The local teacher's union has been ineffective in advocating for it's members. The current compensation and benefit package for EVSC teachers is much lower than the national average and below other Indiana school districts. Salary and benefits are always an enticement to attract and retain qualified teachers, the missing element is flexibility in the classroom to teach, rather than burdened by documentation and bureaucracy to comply with the latest legislative mandate. The current administration is not advocating for the most important resource; its teachers. EVSC has hired non-qualified, unlicensed DEI applicants to fill positions and the resentment among the teachers create an unnecessary morale issue that is avoidable.
The EVSC Administration have affirmed the allegiance is to the "Experts" rather than the will of the people. Look no further than draconian facemasks and vaccine schedules. Parental and taxpayer input have been intentionally ignored. The Experts may at times have an agenda that is not logical or in the best interest of the long-term effects of students and parents. Parents are disillusioned by policies that are implemented without any discernment of the ramifications. The history of poor decisions are reflected in the number of students exiting the public school system in favor of other educational opportunities. This short sidedness is the result of poor leadership decisions.
The requirement to drug test teachers; this is a contract provision to exempt teachers from drug testing but requires random drug testing for employees of EVSC. The policies are not being equally applied. If your leading question is regarding the second amendment, proceed with caution, rules may not be repugnant to the US Constitution.

I have worked with children for over half my life. I was a preschool teacher for many years, became a stay at home parent, went back to teaching, became a children’s ministry director, and am now the Connections Coordinator at Methodist Temple. I have also been in several school settings as a parent and due to my job. I am inside schools and on the community. I was the band booster president for the North High School Green Brigade Marching Band. My gift is that I really see people. I see how hard they work, and I notice gifts, I see how hard the community works including all in the EVsC- from the administrators, the educators, the support staff, the families, and the students.
I have the experience of working with several budgets. There is always room for movement. I will admit that I can’t fully answer this question until I am fully on board to where I have an official say and see things in person, and also work with Dr. Hoover and other members of the board to see how best to facilitate this. I like to think I am also a person who can think of out of the box ideas and have dream sessions on how we can work together to better serve our his situation.
We can keep teachers by putting the light on them more. They are doing such great things and we need to showcase that. We need to show more how hard they work and how valued they are. I think we need more teacher spotlights.
Intentional interaction leads to alignment… meaning, there are ways to get both sides to come together to make it possible for all to be happy. I’m all for communication, intentionality, and cooperation in all forms…especially when it comes to policy.
Safety and security are a top priority and on everyone’s minds, and as a parent in the EVSC I feel that too. The EVSC is in the process of assessing security and I look forward to being a part of that conversation and change.
