Term: 8 yearsThe criminal court judge has five basic tasks. These are to preside over the trials, to determine if any of the evidence that the parties want to use is illegal or improper, to give the jury instructions about the law as applicable as well as the standards to be used when deciding the case, and to sentence convicted criminal defendants. Additionally, in a bench trial, the judge must ascertain the facts and decide the case.
