I'm running for my fourth out of five possible terms because I'm the best candidate to help my community recover from the devastating wildfires of 8/8/23. Immediately after the fires I worked with my neighbors to set up a community relief hub "Napili Noho" at Napili Park, I worked with Red Lightning Disaster Relief Services to deploy starlinks to residents on the upper west side to help them be able to communicate with the outside world. As we move through each phase of recovery I aspire to be a conduit of information helping my community recover to the best of my abilities.
I'm working to support a diversified economy and support businesses that fill a need within our community, industry such as local composting, I have pushed for faster distribution of COVID recovery funds and work with a community to create a balance between the tourism industry and other locally grown business and jobs that we need to serve our community members as well as our visitor population striving to balance not only the economy and environment but also our people's place within the two.
I have been working with the developers of Pulelehua to bring that West Maui project to fruition as well as private landowners on the idea of a land swap for West Maui residents who may be apprehensive to rebuild in certain dangerous areas. I have met with those in the off site building industry and been supportive of legislation allowing more accessory dwelling units and supportive of changes in zoning in areas that make sense and are generally supported by the community.
I support the county investing in infrastructure that will allow for affordable housing to be built or retained. Water is a major issue and I have been supportive of the installation of pipes for more R1 water reuse to utilize this water as a resource instead of pumping into nearshore injection wells.
