I am running for the Maui County Council because I do not agree with the ideological direction of the current council. I have 4 decades of experience in Maui County Government, including 8 years as Executive Assistant to Mayor Linda Lingle; 4 years Chief of Staff for Mayor Alan Arakawa; and a decade covering the government as a reporter for the Maui News and other publications; and served on two County Charter Commissions, dealing with the structure of the government. While I am starting in this effort late in life, my "learning curve" will be short because I am ready to hit the ground running. I will be focused like a laser on our housing crisis.

Climate change will not be effectively addressed in 100 days. It is a global phenomenon and we must be ready to deal with the consequences: coastal impacts as well as impacts on water supply and being prepared to the degree possible for massive flooding events like the one that hit North Kauai. Over the long range, I am a proponent for building bike paths that will make it easier for getting around without a car.
