I am concerned about the future of my three grandson’s and other resident’s grandchildren and their ability to afford to live and remain here in Maui County. I believe that I am a proven problem solving decision maker and leader who is able to assemble effective teams and inspire those around me to achieve the mission. I posse skills that I have acquired and honed over my career including surrounding myself with good people with good ideas who can execute the agreed upon plan. I will listen carefully to all sides before taking action with integrity, fairness, balance and courage.

My priority is Kama’aina prosperity for all resident through home ownership and good paying jobs. Kama’aina housing envisions driving home prices down through 1) determining an inventory of land deemed appropriate for home construction 2) County installing the infrastructure and 3) selling these home to those who qualify for a homeowners exemption (primary residence and agree to reside in it). I believe good paying jobs and keeping college graduates home starts with more public and private internships here, This should be mandatory for those agencies who receive grants from the county.

I'm Kim Brown and I'm running for the People of Maui County. The responsibility of the Mayor is to first secure the rights of We the People, and the duties thereafter are to operate as the CEO of the County. I've been the CEO of Akamai Coffee Company for over 15-years, and my experience includes coordinating research projects, opening businesses from the ground-up, writing contracts, negotiating leases and purchase contracts, creating and managing budgets, building & leading teams, strategizing & growing businesses during economic downturns, while maintaining excellence in customer service.
Our immediate needs are housing, food and water. Previous Administrations have run their campaigns on solving this issue to no avail. We're now in crisis mode and have to attack this with a 3-pronged approach: an immediate plan, 1-year plan, and 3-year plan, and work on these simultaneously with residents who have these expertise and experience, yet were met with roadblocks and arbitrary "policy". To start, we'll need to remove the red-tape at the county level, incentivize people with rentals, release land for home developments, allow residents to build ADUs on their property, to name a few.

I was urged to run for Mayor in the final days before the filing deadline by local residents seeking a proactive, “visionary” leader with a record of accomplishments. After considering the potential for bringing change to Maui County, being the first aina-focused administrator in recent history and utilizing my business-honed collaboration skills to transform county government, I accepted the challenge. Together with my Council office team, we have proven that professionalism can get things done, compassion brings folks together to solve problems, and transparency breeds trust.
I will continue to shepherd in appropriate, truly affordable housing, as I have done in South Maui during my tenure on the Council, by bringing developers and the community together before final designs are completed. This early collaboration has proven successful in getting projects supported that address the needs of the 60% and below AMI level. Also, I will continue to focus on climate action and adaptation by initiating and supporting policy proposals that protect our shorelines and biodiversity, reduce and recycle waste, and secure adequate water, food and renewable energy sources.

I am running for Maui County Mayor. I have always promoted open, accessible and responsive government over my twenty two years of government service which includes 14 years as a member of the Maui County Council. It is my belief that all leaders should be facilitators not dictators and that they should always maintain positive relationships with their constituents. My goals include providing the public better customer service, more efficient use of our tax dollars and restoring trust and confidence in local government.
My top two goals are affordable housing and diversifying our economy. For housing, we can partner with developers to build affordable housing on county owned lands. The County can pay for infrastructure costs using monies from the Affordable Housing Fund in return for more affordable units from the developer. We can also pursue rehabilitating existing structures that working families can be moved into

Maui County is my home. I've devoted 14 years to elected office and 40 years to community service because of my aloha for this community. From 2020 to 2022, COVID-19 put our health and livelihoods at great risk. During that time, I prioritized the health and wellbeing of Maui County residents not because it was popular, but because it was necessary. Today, our economy is healthier, unemployment is lower and my administration is making real progress on housing, economic diversification and environmental protection. Let's keep our forward momentum by reelecting a respected, experienced mayor.
My top goal is to execute a practical plan to lower the cost of homes were built after the Great Recession. Short supply and high demand have made prices out of reach for working families. I am building the infrastructure needed to expedite home construction, strengthening our Affordable Housing fund and expediting permits for new homes. My second goal is to diversify the economy to become more self-reliant, I am advancing agriculture, renewable energy and supporting the growth of STEM, healthcare and creative industries in Maui County.
