"I'm very concerned about the amount of adversely affected homeowners, our elder citizens, that are being priced out of their homes due to rising property taxes. I myself have helped Elders in my community fundraise for their biannual $1,000 property tax. Everyone can agree, its really hard to thrive right now, with high grocery costs combined with rising gas prices. I'm very concerned that the people that we should be thinking most about in this economy, the very young and the very old-- they're being left out. It's not right. Our elder citizens should have nothing to worry about right now-- they should be using their energy to do whatever they want to do because they've earned it."
"It's at my very core, my very nature, to help others. Not only have I helped community members find needed resources on an individual basis, but on a national level I've participated in policy and strategy discussions, keeping our rural communities at the forefront of mind. I am effective in both worlds, in both roles. I always consider how this proposed policy decision would affect Home, how this would affect my neighbor's, how this would affect my own children. We need leaders that see beyond themselves and that have long term planning in that decision-making process. I will do everything in my power to protect the community I love. “
“The first community members that come to mind are our farmers. We have a finite amount of natural resources, and much of our economy relies heavily on agriculture & access to freshwater. We need to utilize our resources wisely.
As the world population is increasing, effects of climate change will continue to intensify, and much of what we love here will be drastically affected, if we fail to put smart, sensible legislation into place now. Our water use needs to be efficient, equitable, and eco-friendly. Our future is dependent on what choices we make now.”
"It's hard to be a good parent-It's hard to be a good community member. Once we start allowing other people to do the work that we’re intended to do, pretty soon we're passive parents, we’re passive community members. The same goes for our civic duties. Once we start allowing other people to think for us, vote for us– it's a slippery slope. If we allow other people to build without our input soon it becomes an institution–not a community– that does not reflect our own values and beliefs. We need leaders that will put community first. The divisive nature of our political system right now does not serve our best interest here at home. I want to affirm, that I'm a person of deep devotion to community & I will work my hardest for our district."
To bring Property Tax Relief to Idahoans; to encourage more parent participation in Idaho’s Public Educational arena; to enhance Idaho Career & Tech opportunities; and to find a better solution for funding our schools. We need a better, more consistent and transparent way to fund schools. In Business, I will continue to support policies that encourage and promote a better climate for our state’s small and large businesses. To encourage growth in our business sector we must be vigilant in reducing regulations that inhibit growth. I am a strong advocate for our 25,000 farms/ranches that produce approx. 200 different commodities. I will strive to enhance every aspect of Idaho's agriculture through ag-friendly policies.
As a current Idaho Legislator, a former professor/teacher at LC State College, running our several small businesses, including a legal office, a commercial and residential real estate business, along with a working cattle ranch, make me uniquely qualified for this office. This position requires one to get along with a diverse group of people from all walks of life, and my past experiences and learned skills have proven to be very essential in my current position as a legislator. In addition, I am a wife, mother, and grandmother, and currently the Pres. of the LCSC Foundation, member of the Boards of Idaho Business for Education, Idaho Community Foundation, the Idaho Workforce Development Council, and U of I Extension Advisory Board.
Property Tax Relief is my #1 priority! We must work together to find solutions. Idaho's growth and how it is affecting our ag. lands, our water supply, and our schools is a huge issue. We must take the time to address how we balance the need for growth with the need to protect our farm lands, our natural resources, and building schools to fit the needs of our growing populations. With my experiences in Agriculture, Education, and Business, I have the background and knowledge to be a player at the table to find the right solutions. There is no single answer to this challenge, but working collaboratively with others, I know we will move Idaho forward.
There has never been a more important time in Idaho’s history than NOW to get involved in the process. With the many out of state interests we are seeing and the sharp extremists on both sides of the aisle, I need you more than ever to get out and vote. We need common-sense, legislators who will stand strong for Idaho’s Public Educational Choices, and Idaho's deep-rooted history in strong agriculture and in our business sector. A vote for Lori McCann is a vote for Stronger Education, Stronger Agriculture, and Stronger Business, all for a Stronger Idaho!
I am Lori McCann, and I am running for the Idaho House of Representatives - District 6. I hope to earn your respect and in turn, earn your vote.
