Indiana House District 50

The Indiana House of Representatives has broad powers to pass laws that affect the daily lives of Indiana citizens. It decides the type of taxes and rates that will be levied on citizens and businesses for State purposes. It can create and abolish agencies of state government. It determines how much will be spent for each of the many government services. It sets the rules for operation of Indiana’s local governments. It determines the amount of state collected tax funds to be distributed to the units of local government for schools, highways and other purposes and designates the basis on which these funds are to be distributed. All 100 members of the house of representatives are elected every two years to two-year terms. It dictates the procedures for the election of state and local government officials including drawing the voting districts

In the 2022 District 50 Republican Primary voter turnout was 20% .In my opinion one of the issues is that disgruntled citizens are fed up with the contentious nature of politics and choose not to participate .A reduction in the number of competitive races has created a lack of interest. Also, people who would be great public servants do not want to expose their families and themselves to all the scrutiny that comes with social media. I will rise above the negative discourse with common sense public policy on the issues that impact the daily lives of my constituents in District 50. Governing with home rule and local control is imperative for the citizens that we represent .
Senate Enrolled Act 3 by Senator Travis Holdman which is the State and Local Tax Review Task Force is a committee that was formed in 2023 to do a study on the current Indiana tax code. I feel that there is real merit to looking for opportunities to put money back into the pockets of our hardworking Indiana citizens.
Less government best government . Local government is the purest form of government and home rule and local control works best . Our communities need to control our own destiny. Unfunded mandates overwhelm the resources of local government and are regressive.
Food security should be a top priority for all of us. Good public policy that guarantees this is collectively in our best interest. The challenge is threading the needle between the competing interests on land use and finding solutions that best meet everyone's needs.

Personally having conversations with people about the importance of voting and promoting voting on my social media platforms. I have also talked with the county clerk and support initiatives they have.
Yes. It needs to be a combination of lowering state spending, increasing the tax base, and looking at the ways that taxes are disincentivizing people from working, owning a home, or starting businesses. We should not constantly be punishing those who are productive members of society with all of the tax burden.
The legislature needs to be careful about broad mandates in the state. Local control is important, as they are closest to the people. However, when local governments overstep their citizens rights, then those issues may need further consideration at the state level to protect the people.
Once our farmlands and wetlands are developed, we cannot get them back. I’d love to see more emphasis on revitalizing already developed areas where buildings and lots are vacant and can be redeveloped. I know that cannot always be done. However as an ag state, we cannot continually sacrifice the farmland necessary to produce food for other development.
