First is regulating hyper-scale data centers. They are on a completely different scale than current data centers and need unique regulations that handle the low frequency, 24/7 noise, power and water draw, and large land use. Second is addressing affordable housing, specifically the permitting and building processes that are too long and complex therefore raising the final price of housing, and modernizing the zoning laws in the state to build more styles of housing. Third is simplifying and updating tax codes to make it easily understandable by the average Minnesotan. You shouldn’t have to have the money and means to hire a tax expert just to make sure you are paying the correct amount in taxes.
We can as a legislature help to build up job and skill training like is done at the Wright Technical Center, working to build more housing of diverse styles, sizes, and types, working on the state tax code to ensure everyone is paying their fair share for our society, and creating an environment for more smaller and family owned businesses of all types can work and thrive in our state.
I would support legislation that looks to fix the root cause of those disparities. Doing things such as supporting 1st generation homebuyer programs, ensuring equitable access to school and work opportunities, and taking an honest and thorough look at if current laws are unfairly impacting certain racial or ethnic groups.
I do. It is sad that it needs to be directly addressed to not discriminate against people for attributes they were born with, but we currently live in a world where people do. Anyone with an ounce of respect for their fellow human beings should want this amendment enacted at the state, and eventually, federal level.
We need to ensure that departments just as the DNR have the ability to monitor our impacts on the environment and the means and authority to correct situations where something is having an undue impact on our natural resources. So I would support legislation that gives the means and authority to enforce the laws protecting our environment, especially against giant corporations that laugh off fines or lawsuits.
I see two distinct areas that can do this, community support and personal support. In community, I would see legislation that focuses law enforcement and corrections on de-escalation and rehabilitation, especially when dealing with situations arising from mental health issues or addiction. In personal, I would see legislation that strengthens mental health support and revamping firearms laws on purchase, storage, and retention to keep someone having a bad day from hurting themselves or others.
At the state level I would support legislation like what was enacted in Montana and Hawaii. Their legislation removes artificial entities (corporations, LLCs, partnerships, etc) power to spend in state politics. While this wouldn’t yet affect entities such as super-pacs, it is a step in the right direction of returning politics and campaigning to the people.
