My top three priorities will be education funding, rural healthcare access, and affordable housing investment. The state must provide schools with the resources needed to serve students without placing too much of the burden on local property taxpayers. Rural residents should be able to access essential healthcare without traveling long distances. Affordable housing investment will help workers, families, and seniors remain in our communities while supporting local employers and economic growth.
I will advocate for increased Local Government Aid so communities can invest in housing and infrastructure without placing the full burden on local property taxpayers. I will also advocate for maintaining rural healthcare access, helping communities retain residents, workers, and employers. To address inflation, I will support continued investment in renewable and other low-carbon energy sources and energy storage to lower and stabilize costs.
I want laws that give every Minnesotan a fair chance. I would support enforcing anti-discrimination laws and expanding access to housing, education, healthcare, business loans, and diversion programs. Help should be based on a person’s needs and the barriers they face, not limited by race or ethnicity. My goal is to lift everyone up while making sure these policies are actually reducing disparities.
I support placing the Equal Rights Amendment before Minnesota voters because equal rights should not depend on who holds office. I believe it would reduce harm by protecting people who have not always received equal treatment. Courts must still distinguish between protecting a person’s rights and excusing harmful conduct. Safety, privacy, religious liberty, and the rights of others should remain legitimate considerations when laws are applied fairly.
PFAS should be a warning that Minnesota cannot take manufacturers’ claims of safety at face value. Iowa’s cancer crisis and concerns about environmental exposures show why rural communities need protection before harm becomes widespread. I would support independent testing, public disclosure, stronger monitoring of rural drinking water, limits on persistent chemicals, polluter-funded cleanup, and investment in technologies that destroy PFAS rather than move it elsewhere.
I would support legislation helping local law enforcement work more closely with county and state mental health, substance-use, and social-service resources. Officers should have trained partners and alternatives when a situation can be safely de-escalated without an arrest. Expanding crisis response, diversion, and rehabilitation programs would allow police to focus on serious crime while helping people get support before a crisis becomes more dangerous.
I have signed the Move to Amend pledge and support a constitutional amendment making clear that constitutional rights belong to people, not corporations, and that spending money to influence elections is not protected speech. Until that change is made, I would support stronger disclosure requirements so voters know who is funding political advertising and efforts to expand public campaign financing.
