I believe that school boards are best filled by candidates who are parents with children attending the schools within the district that they will be representing. My wife and I have three children, two of which are old enough to attend Rio Rancho Public Schools. As a parent, nonprofit leader, youth soccer coach, and community partner, I will represent the other parents of my district as we make unlock the potential of Rio Rancho Public Schools.
My top priority is education. Rio Rancho Public Schools are good, but we can make them great. The district performs excellently in the state of New Mexico, but we should be among the top districts in the nation. By ensuring that maximum dollars flow to the classroom instead of bureaucrats, by enabling higher standards of transparency in spending and curriculum, and by ensuring that our schools stay open and stay safe, we can make Rio Rancho Public Schools the best!
Nothing should ever stand between a child and their education. To this end, parents should be empowered with as much choice as possible pertaining to the health and education of their children. Is your school not providing adequate education options, like online-only learning? You should be able to move to a school that sufficiently addresses your children's needs. Is your school instituting a mandate that you don't agree with? You should have the freedom to move to a school of your choice.
Personally, I have never received an email from the Board of Education of Rio Rancho Public Schools. Email is an easy, cost effective way of maintaining communication between parents and schools. Surveys, questionnaires, and general feedback can be solicited via email to adequately facilitate communication between parents and schools. Communication with parents is key to an effective school system.
