1.) Continue the amazing work of transforming and revitalizing downtown Shawnee 2.) Keeping it simple - let's focus on our roads, sidewalks, and other critical infrastructure; 3.) Let's keep Shawnee front and center when it comes to regional economic development opportunities.
I've served on the De Soto School Board. I'm highly involved in the Shawnee Chamber. I'm a small business owner in Shawnee. My kids attend public schools in Shawnee. I grew up attending Shawnee Mission public schools. Stephanie and I are site leaders at a church in Shawnee. The list continues... the long and short is... I love this city, and I would be honored to serve as a city council member for the next 4 years in giving back.
I'm not sure how to best answer this other than to say, we're better when we're ALL seen and heard and part of the process together. Everyone's voice counts. I will do anything I can to lift up and support any part of our community that hasn't always had a seat at the table.
I will work hard to support opportunities to provide housing options at all income levels within the city.
I would hope the state would do it's part to support the city, but also recognize that the city needs the freedom and discretion to manage it's affairs as it seems fit to be serve the residents of Shawnee. I don't think it's helpful when the legislature tries to control or manipulate local governments into serving the political whims of the majority party in control in Topeka. Government works best when it's closest to its constituents.
Strategically and within a limited scope, yes.
