Like all school districts in Colorado, Boulder Valley School District (BVSD) is governed by an elected Board of Education. The Boulder Valley Board of Education has seven members who each represent one of seven different districts throughout the geographical area of BVSD. Each member serves one four-year term per election up to a maximum of two terms or eight years total service.Four of the seven BVSD Board of Education seats will be up for election in November 2019, two of which are term limited:District ADistrict CDistrict DDistrict GCandidates MUST live in the director district in which they are running; however, they are voted upon by the entire Boulder Valley School District community.Board DutiesActing together, the Board of Education does the following:Acts as a bridge between the community and the school districtHires and supervises the superintendentProvides the district with high-level guidance/directionCreates and revises BVSD’s policiesBoard Member Qualifications(Adopted: March 9, 2010)A candidate for the office of school director shall be:A resident of the school district and a registered voter, as shown on the books of the county clerk and recorder, for at least 12 consecutive months prior to the election18 years or older by the date of the electionA citizen of the United StatesThe district has a director district plan of representation. The candidate must be a resident of the director district in which he or she is a candidate.No candidate may run representing a political party.In addition, any person who has been convicted of, pled guilty or nolo contendere to, or received a deferred judgment or sentence for commission of a sexual offense against a child is ineligible for election to a school district board of education. Similarly, any board member who is convicted of, pleads guilty or nolo contendere to, or receives a deferred judgment for a sexual offense against a child while serving on a board shall become ineligible to serve and a vacancy shall be created. Any person who is the subject of a pending charge of commission of a sexual offense against a child at the time of election is ineligible for election to a school district board of education.
