Metro West Fire Protection District - Proposition V
Simple Majority Required Ballot Wording: Shall the Metro West Fire Protection District of St. Louis County, Missouri be authorized to levy an additional tax of not more than seventeen cents per one hundred dollars of assessed valuation for the purpose of providing funds for the support of the Districts Advanced Life Support operations?Summary: The District wants to increase the property tax levy by $.17 per $100.00 assessed valuation. It estimates that maintaining the level of quality service and meeting the needs of new growth, the operating will experience a deficit beginning in 2018. If passed, the owner of a $250,000 home will pay an additional $84.00 annually. Supporters say that service calls have increased significantly over the last ten years and that the construction of senior citizen facilities will place more demands for EMS services. The increased revenue will allow the district to be fiscally responsible and continue to provide cutting edge EMS and fire protection services in the future. In addition, the district will be able to expand its wellness and prevention education outreach, particularly to senior citizens. Opponents want no tax increases.
