Dardenne Prairie - Proposition P
Ballot wording: Shall the municipality of the City of Dardenne Prairie, Missouri, impose a sales tax of one-half of one percent (0.5%) for the purpose of providing funding for local parks and storm water control for the municipality?Summary: The City wants to increase the sales tax by $.50 to improve storm water management and expand and improve city parks and recreation offerings. If passed, it estimates that $58,000 will be raised annually. It says that the local sales tax is lower than surrounding cities and that a sales tax is preferable to a property tax increase because it will have less impact on those on fixed incomes. The city wants to build new parks, enhance the four existing parks, add playgrounds, sports centers and courts, an outdoor pool and other facilities. In addition, it will provide new recreation programs for residents of all ages. Supporters say that these enhancements will improve the quality of life in Dardenne Prairie. Opponents oppose tax increases.
