1. Taxpayers first. I am a strong, independent voice for taxpayers--I do my best to keep politics, personal agendas and other distractions out of legislative business.

2. Commitment to traditional, fiscally-conservative governance. My approach is simple, by adhering to cost-efficient, small-government principles, money stays in the economy to promote investment, jobs and opportunity for residents and employers. I have been a leader in reducing the cost of County government every year with reductions to the tax levy, tax rate or both. Conversely, I am not afraid to invest when it will benefit our economy.

3. As Chairman of Public Safety, I have had a leadership role with all public-safety-related departments, as well as first responders in volunteer fire, EMS and local police agencies. I am especially proud of my work with the new Sheriff's administration to balance three consecutive budgets after more than a decade of substantial cost overruns.
From supporting social programs to literacy to infrastructure, I am committed to addressing the issue of poverty. I have supported millions of dollars to operate and improve our social programs--Economic Security, Adult & Long Term Care, Child & Family Services, Veterans Services and Human Rights Commission--and will continue to do so. These departments expend the largest portion of our $1.3 billion budget and serve residents across the entire County, including the City of Syracuse.

It is well proven that literacy is one of the keys to giving kids a chance to rise to great heights and point today's youth toward productive, self-reliant lives. I will continue to support investments in childhood literacy.

For people to have quality of life they need quality places to live. I will continue to support county infrastructure, lead abatement, neighborhood revitalization, land bank and community development programs to improve property values, neighborhoods and quality of life. logo
