This zoning code amendment would ban the manufacturing, cultivation, processing and dispensing of medical marijuana in Brecksville, although residents needing to use the drug under a doctor's care would be allowed to do so. Municipalities in Ohio are allowed to establish their own marijuana rules, and Brecksville's City Council voted to put the ban on the ballot. Voters in Brecksville must approve any zoning code change.
Now that Ohio allows the use of medical marijuana if approved by a medical doctor, municipalities can restrict locations where marijuana is cultivated, processed and sold, or they can ban the growing and selling of marijuana altogether. If this zoning amendment passes, Brecksville residents who can legally use medical marijuana would have to find a seller outside of their own community.
