Experience (300 characters max) Currently serving on Ellensburg City Council for the last 6 years. Have owned my own business for the last 11 years and have served on many boards and commissions in the last 40 years.
Storm water management, dead and dying trees which are a risk to people and the infrastructure, safe streets and sidewalks to allow people to walk safely, safety for bicyclists, and good parks. Much of our infrastructure is in good condition and I am very proud of our city departments that are constantly working to improve the way our city functions.
We voted to put a sales tax funded measure on the ballot for the upcoming election which will support affordable housing and mental health issues in our town. If it passes, it will provide enough funds to allow the city to bond against it and to repay the bond. It is intended that this would provide a method to have affordable housing built in the city.
Interesting question, since I'm one myself. I care deeply about the financial health of the city but also the cost of taxes to seniors who are living on fixed incomes. I have opposed ideas which would have added to the tax bill without broad community support and usually try to have tax issues go on a ballot so that everyone is involved in the decision.
I have had almost no direct involvement with immigration issues at the city and don't wish to give what would be solely my personal opinion on this. However, on a personal level, I support immigration into the country and also support DACA.
Always being careful with where we spend money. The changes with state and federal grant programs, and with the bite that funding for schools has taken at the state level, means that all cities in Washington must be cautious in their financial planning and spending.
Encouraging businesses to locate here, to promote living wage jobs so that our university graduates don't find it necessary to leave but are able to make a living and can afford to live in Ellensburg is very important. Pulling the Economic Business Development Authority inside the city, I believe, will be positive, as we will have measurable, quantifiable ways of knowing what is happening in terms of generating new business and helping our existing businesses grow.

I currently have a good working relationship with our city manager. It is my choice to take him my ideas and have him help me flesh them out and get the cooperation of the departments that may be involved. That is his job and I feel he does an excellent job at it.
