One of the cornerstones of the new charter proposal is the elimination of councilors elected from their ward only, and the addition of four “super councilors” who could be elected from anywhere in the city. I feel strongly that this is an undemocratic idea. This could mean that five out of the proposed twelve councilors could all be from a single neighborhood, guaranteeing less diversity of opinion, and less robust debate; it could also hand one ward the power to sway any vote.
I wish I had an answer to this!!
The site should be size appropriate for village centers — not many city blocks. When many city blocks are rezoned for a single developer, that is not a mixed use building — that is a series of connected retail, also known as a mall. Malls have no place in our historic village centers. We should change the MU4 zoning to be four stories maximum. Historic buildings, which are the foundation of the village squares in many of our commercial centers, must be preserved if site is to be rezoned. logo
