Every candidate in every Nassau County election for decades says something like: “We must reform the unjust property tax system to provide businesses and homeowners with a transparent, fair and clear assessment program going forward.” And it never happens. Other than repeating the above, what is your specific plan for fixing this system that continues a debt burden for Nassau County.

Integrity, honesty, trustworthiness are all qualities we expect from our politicians, yet Nassau County has had several elected officials that have faced criminal charges. What specifically will you do to implement accountability, transparency, checks and balances, and proper oversight? What concrete steps will you take to re-build the public’s trust?

Having the financial resources to live in Nassau County is becoming increasingly difficult. What strategic plans do you have on the county level to support and partner with the various municipalities to create more affordable housing for young adults, working families and seniors?

Redistricting and gerrymandering affect the choice of candidates that voters elect to represent them. What are your views for setting up an independent redistricting commission for Nassau County for the drawing of lines after the 2020 census? If you agree with setting up an independent redistricting commission, how would you make it a reality in Nassau County? If you are not for an independent redistricting commission, why not?

The tax assessment needs a complete overhaul. The County should move to a system that has annual appraisals using realtime market data. Also we need to staff the Assessment Department with more reviewers/inspectors. Finally the County is a very large jurisdiction to do assessments. We have to provide the resources to the smaller jurisdictions so the assessment system is done accurately.
For the last two years I have fought for an Independent Inspector General to monitor procurement in the County. The Independent Inspector General would be an office that would provide oversight and transparency to the process.
I support affordable housing. Utilizing the First Time Home Buyer Program and utilizing strategic plans to build housing in pockets of the County will enhance our efforts to keep young families in Nassau.
During the last redistricting process I wanted to secure an independent body to oversee the developing of the map and I will do the same for the 2020-23 process.
The key to addressing the tax burden on Nassau County residents is to expand the commercial tax base. If Nassau creates an environment to attract and expand businesses, particularly in economically disadvantaged areas, the tax burden on residents will be reduced.
I have worked in and with the various levels of government for the last fifteen years. Implementing proper oversight, checks and balances hinges upon a depth of knowledge and understanding of how County government functions. With this knowledge, those charged with holding our public officials accountable understand the right questions to ask to ensure transparency.

Once elected, I am committed to enforcing zero tolerance for corruption and ethics violations, cutting wasteful spending, and promoting transparency in the government contracting process.
Once elected, I will explore ways to create strategic partnerships with other municipalities and implement economic strategies to leverage resources and cost sharing. I will work with the Nassau County Land Bank to target communities burdened with "zombie" homes, access funding to rehabilitate these homes and put them back on the market as housing for young adults, working families and seniors. Within District 1, I am currently working with the Uniondale Land Trust to purchase, rehabilitate and sell homes to eligible home buyers.
I support the establishment of competitive election districts putting the interests of communities and the rights of citizens first to ensure fair representation. Unfortunately, partisan politics often plays the largest role in redistricting regardless of which party controls the process. I would support setting up an independent redistricting commission subject to the review and approval of the governing legislative body. logo
