Mark represents Tysons, Dunn Loring, Vienna, Oakton and Fair Oaks, and serves on House Commerce, Finance, Education and Agriculture Committees. He has drafted laws dealing with job creation, tax reform, public education, healthcare and public safety.
I believe that voters should choose their representatives, and not the other way around. I support any solution that would remove partisan politics out of the redistricting process, including the use of independent nonpartisan commission not appointed by the legislature, or relying on experts selected by the judicial branch to draw the district lines. I also support beginning the process early by seeking public input and guidance years before the census is taken.
I believe a democracy works best when more citizens pay attention to their government and are engaged in their civic duties. To make it as easy as possible for eligible voters to choose their representatives, I support expanding the number of days for voting, such as creating a robust mail-in ballot process, eliminating the need to provide an excuse when voting absentee, and allowing as many physical locations as possible for voters to early vote prior to election day.
I represent one of the most congested areas in the Commonwealth of Virginia, and my House District has more Metro stations than any other. I have always support fully funding the state's portion of building Metro's silver line expansion as well as to paying Virginia's fair share in the operation of the Metro system. In 2013, I was one of the first members of the House to support and vote to create a new stream of revenues dedicated to Northern Virginia's transportation.
My priorities are to improve the quality of life for families. For parents, this means having a strong economy and regulatory environment where businesses can attract qualified workers and long term investors to grow their businesses and where entrepreneurs can take risks to explore new ventures. For children, this means having world class public education and teachers who are treated as professionals. For everyone, it means safe streets, clean environment and strong public infrastructures.
