Campaign Message I hope in the last six years as your Councilman I have earned your trust and support in this election,
1- The Cities unfunded liability ( the Pension Program)- exceeding twenty million dollars. This issue began over twenty years ago when the account was incorrectly set-up. The City Council for the last four years has budgeted an extra one million dollar principal payment. We have seen improvement however this will be a slow process! 2-Road Conditions- The City is 23 Square and 232 miles of Street and Roads 3-Blight-

As I have for the last six years as your Councilman, I have talked and listed to the Citizens of the City of Burton .Their feedback and ideas our very important to me and in City decisions. I also actively seek input from the Community!
I think the City Council has made a very large commitment to ensure transparency several years ago! Every Council Meeting is filmed "Live" and appears on The City of Burton's website, it also can be viewed at a later date. This means every Citizen can view everything the City Council acts on from the comfort of their homes at any time.
Leadership Experience and Honesty would be three of my main qualifications. In my successful Banking career I was a manager & Leader of more than four hundred staff members. I had the experience of dealing with many customers and issues much like the City setting. I have a great understanding of financial issues which is greatly needed at the City of Burton. Listed above is my Community Involvement which has giving me a great understanding of people. The leadership skills & experiences I have received are “Priceless”!

Campaign Message As a city, we in Burton should certainly remember our GM automotive past and all the wonderful things GM did for us, however, we must look forward and learn to compete for good paying jobs in areas besides automotive. Our goal as a city and as a city government in today's economy requires us to work closely with Burton business to ensure their success and to develop options to encourage business development from outside the Burton community.
1. To ensure the continued financial sustainability of the city of Burton. We are in the process now of "Right Sizing" our city's labor force and employment packages to ensure quality services to Burton residents at a level which our city can continue to afford. 2. Burton roads continue to be an area that needs to be addressed. To totally fix Burton main roads is a 60 million dollar problem.Fixing roads with existing monies requires us to share resources with adjoining municipalities whenever possible. 3. Development of the Burton Business Community. A partnership between the Burton business community and Burton City Hall with joint meetings between the Burton Chamber of Commerce and Burton City Hall would be a nice starting point.
I am very active in our Burton Community and will continue to do so. I make it a point to be speak with as many Burton residents as possible to get a feel for what the majority of Burton residents desire. In my capacity as a Burton City Councilman, I always recognize the importance of listening to our residents issues and look for the resources necessary to fix the problem.
I am a retire media executive. I worked for the Flint Journal for over 27 years. I understand the importance of sharing information to ensure our democracy works as smoothly as our Founding Fathers intended. In today's social media world, transparency is even more important due to the fact anyone can now be a journalist or blogger and the traditional safeguards of editorial oversight have for the most part been lost. I make a special effort to share city information with our local media whenever possible.
I have always been a LEADER. From the time I played high school sports to my professional career I have always risen to leadership roles. I am a "bottom up" leader which means, I recognize I do not as a leader have all the answers. I recognize the people I am working with have many talents. My job as a LEADER is to draw out those wonderful talents and wisdom they possess and direct their efforts to solving the problem(s) we are facing.

Campaign Message A Proven Leader
1. Utilities Costs: Extremely high water and sewer costs. I will stop the current illegal practice of paying certain employees out of these funds, and put a stop to using those funds as a bank. This is exactly how Flint got into trouble and now the council is allowing this administration to do the same thing.

2. Taxes: The residents of Burton were kind enough to pass a police millage a few years ago but unfortunately that money has been squandered on raises and wasted on bad policies. Burton taxpayers have seen little or no results for our hard earned money. Now they are talking about asking for an additional 7 mills to repair our roads and 2 mills for the general fund. Our residents can’t afford more taxes.

3. Public Safety and roads and infrastructure:
I would look at other cities our size and see what successful programs they have started and how they might work for us both financially and demographically. I would have open conversation with Grand Blanc, Grand Blanc Township, Davison and Davison Township and work with them to create a triangle or pyramid of success for our area.
I know how important communication is and getting resident input has always been one of my highest priorities. I am not afraid to ask questions. I have always made it a point to do my own research and go above and beyond to get the truth out to our residents.
I have over 40 years in the private sector as both an employee and a business owner. Add to that my 15 years as a Councilman serving the residents of Burton and including serving on boards at both the state and national level. Most importantly is my knowledge of our City Charter and local state and federal laws and ordinances. I have seen what bad policies can do to small cities like Burton and have always spoken up in an effort to make the City I live in a better place. logo
