Biographical Information

Please provide biographical information and explain why you are running for City office and relevant qualities and skills you would bring to the position.

What are the top 3 Priority Issues that the city should address and what actions would you take regarding each of them?

Born and raised in Pontiac, MI, I have the pleasure of saying that I am a positive product of the environment that raised me. Attending multiple High Schools (PNH, Cranbrook, West Bloomfield) has provided me with very different perspectives that contribute to how I make decisions. I attended Hope College where I Double Majored in Accounting & Business Management. The decision to begin my career in the Grand Rapids area was very beneficial. Aside from gaining valuable experience as a Project Manager and Product Line Manager for a Multi-million dollar residential manufacturer, I have a wealth of knowledge concerning the entrepreneurial landscape. I am a founder of tech oriented businesses, assisted my alma mater with evolving their program and worked extensively with SmartZones across Michigan. I believe theese experiences lend well to governing in a diverse community such as Pontiac's. Simply put, the reason I'm running for City Council is to bridge the gaps that exist within our community.
Transparency, Collaboration, Vision. There are certainly major issues that need to be addressed that are well known to our community. My plan is to debate what the facts mean and help provide solutions if given the opportunity to serve on City Council. We are currently suffering from the last 50+ years of questionable decision making on Pontiac's behalf.

Transparency: There needs to be a way for elected officials to be held accountable. My suggestion is that we adhere to updating electronic scorecards that citizens have access to. These scorecards would reflect stated goals and explanations by elected officials.

Collaboration: An absolute necessity if we plan to overcome hurdles that could set Pontiac back further and take away from our progress.

Lastly, it will take an organized Vision in order to make and implement plans that helps Pontiac become a more progressive community.

Please see my Governing Proposal & Platform for further details:
I have devoted my adult life to public services. In 1985, I refocused my career to Municipal Government and retired from the City of Pontiac as the Legislative Administrator to the Pontiac City Council in November of 2006. I learned early on to fight for the voice of the People a proud community activist and champion for change. I'm a firm believer in giving back. I have served on the Pontiac City Council for the last 8 years as President of the Council for the last 4 years. I have spearheaded many initiatives of the eighth and ninth council. My leadership was on display during the lean years when the city was controlled by an emergency manager. As President, I stepped up and called on citizens to be engaged and played a major role in the City's resurgence, bringing financial stability back to the City and the relinquishment of State management. I have earned the trust and respect of the community, a proven track record of nothing less than strong leadership, working diligently with elected officials of all branches of government, faith based organizations in empowering our community.
Infrastructure, Blight, Restoring Youth Involvement

We must secure additional funding to repair our streets Council passed in our budget 3 Million for road repairs but much more is needed. I will work diligently in redevelopment of our neighborhoods in having code enforcement enforcing our city codes to eliminate blight from our communities as well as working with our businesses in implementing new opportunities and creating jobs for our citizens. In closing, I will continue to advocate to restore recreation and activities as well a safe haven for our youth and seniors for the city of Pontiac.
