The current administration's issuance of long-term bonds to pay current and recurring budget expenses, on top of one-shot sales of valuable county assets, such as the proposed Airport deal, as well as faulty sales tax projections and dipping into reserve funds, puts the County's finances in peril. Its support of Indian Point nuclear plant, the gas pipeline proposed nearby, and the sale/expansion of the Airport shows a reckless disregard for environmental consequences. We need to encourage more housing for all income levels near transit hubs throughout the County. The Republicans' pro-gun, anti-choice, anti-housing, anti-LGBT and anti-immigrant stances do not reflect the values of our community. Especially in light of the current national government it is essential to have people representing our values at all levels of government.
Top priority is wisely investing our tax money in our people and in our infrastructure to save money over the long-term. Take our youngest people, for example. Financial experts say that fully funding good early childhood programs is one of the best investments that government can make over the long run. Even over the short run, the availability of quality day-care options saves us money by keeping low-wage workers in the work force and not as dependent on transfer payments and additional social services. We need to fully restore funding that was cut by my opponent who is Budget Chair of the Board of Legislators. Likewise, restore positions cut from the Planning Dept so that long-delayed infrastructure projects (roads, bridges and county pools, for example) get done before further deterioration leads to greater cost. End wasteful lawsuits over losing causes like Indian Point.

It is no secret that Westchester County is the highest taxed county in the nation. I hear it from my neighbors, co-workers, business owners and just about everyone I speak with, Westchester residents want tax relief. I agree. Additionally Westchester residents are concerned about strong communities and public safety. These are just 2 of the many issues that face our residents. There is also a strong need to persist in the work we have begun on much of our infrastructure, and continuing to work on aggressive and smart capital projects. Flood mitigation has been an ongoing concern for many of our municipalities and we will continue to partner with them in this endeavor. Westchester County has always been a leader, and at the forefront of environmental issues and I am proud to once again have the endorsement of the NYS League of Conservation voters and I will continue to work towards keeping Westchester an environmentally safe place for all of all of residents.
As the Chair woman of the Budget and Appropriations Committee I am proud to have been a part of a bi-partisan coalition of legislators that passed a balanced budget which protected the taxpayer, preserved essential services and promoted economic growth. For the 7th year in a row Westchester has passed a zero tax levy increase. At the same time we have added more money to our department of social services, helping those in our communities who are most vulnerable, as well as added a million dollars for child care, 4 engineering positions, 6 county police officers and $200,000 to the not-for-profits who work with us in delivering services.

We will continue to explore ways to maximize our assets and increase revenues where we are able. The very first time I ran for office I made a promise to my constituents that I would work hard to lower taxes and keep them in check, and I am proud to be seeking re-election and will be running on my record! logo
