What professional and personal experiences make you the best candidate for this position?

I have 29 years of law enforcement experience, including 22 years in leadership roles. I’m a graduate of the FBI National Academy and hold a B/S in criminal justice. I’m the immediate past president of the Tennessee Sheriff’s Association and am well-versed in the issues impacting our county and state. I have worked in corrections until I graduated from the Regional Law Enforcement Academy in 1999. While working patrol I was promoted to sergeant and lieutenant in 2004. I then was promoted to Captain in 2007 overseeing all POST certified officers training and curriculum. In 2008 I was transferred to operations captain where I supervised patrol, K-9, dispatch, evidence, and IT. I have been the current sheriff after being elected in 2018.

What are the most pressing issues in the office you are seeking, and how do you plan to address them?

My top priorities include completing the new jail and ensuring a smooth transition. This new jail will enhance our rehabilitation efforts and allow for a safe environment for staff and inmates. I will continue to improve pay and benefits to attract and retain high-quality personnel, while strengthening recruitment and training. I am committed to equipping our agency with modern technology and resources to meet evolving demands. Maintaining our CALEA Accreditation Gold Standard Award shows we are committed to a well-managed, transparent, successful, and community-focused public safety agency. We continue to have a strong relationship within the community and have built a strong culture to retain only the best Deputies in the state.

What professional and personal experiences make you the best candidate for this position?

With 33 years of service at the Sullivan County Sheriff’s Office, I offer experience that few can match. Having served under three different Sheriff’s, I have gained a unique perspective on the leadership qualities that drive success—and the pitfalls that hinder progress. I know what works, what doesn’t, and exactly what it takes to move us forward. My career has been defined by versatility. I have served in several different positions including Patrol, Corrections, Information Technology and Evidence. With extra experience as a Field Training Officer, crash reconstructionist, and as a patrol supervisor. I have a clear, proven vision: to build a Sheriff’s Office that our community is proud of and our officers are proud to serve.

What are the most pressing issues in the office you are seeking, and how do you plan to address them?

“The most pressing issues facing the Sheriff’s Office are responsible use of taxpayer dollars and the growing impact of illegal drugs in our community. Over the past eight years, the county budget has doubled, and taxpayers deserve accountability and transparency in how those funds are spent. As Sheriff, I will prioritize fiscal responsibility by identifying waste, improving efficiency, and ensuring resources are directed toward public safety. At the same time, drug-related crime continues to harm families and increase repeat offenses. I will take a balanced approach by holding dealers accountable while working with community partners on prevention and recovery efforts, improving safety without unnecessary spending.”
