What professional and personal experiences make you the best candidate for this position?
I am an innovator, a change agent, and a fix-it guy. My 27 years of service as a physician in the Air Force, and my subsequent seven years serving as the Director of Global Health Outreach at the Christian Medical & Dental Associations in Bristol, have given me broad experience in working with others in government, faith-based, and civilian sectors, both domestically and internationally. As a senior leader, I have a proven success record at identifying problems and their root causes, measuring and improving efficiency of office functions, and working with all parties to develop solutions that go far to satisfying almost all people involved. The other candidates in District 1 lack such a track record. I will hit the ground running!
What are the most pressing issues in the office you are seeking, and how do you plan to address them?
Sullivan County is at a crossroads, coming out of the COVID pandemic with its excessive government spending and struggling economy. Sullivan County businesses have failed, schools are struggling, the County is $500 million dollars in debt, and there is pressure to raise property taxes. I bring an experienced approach to examining local government processes and procedures, especially at the middle administrative levels, developing reasonable measures of effectiveness, and bringing in efficiencies where possible. I will encourage responsible growth, responsible budgeting, and responsible development while protecting and building on our strong rural agricultural heritage and our many attractive recreational and tourism resources.
