What professional and personal experiences make you the best candidate for this position?
I went back to school as a 9th grader at 18 after dropping out in 5th grade in the Philippines. Even though I was the oldest, spoke broken English, and had a disability, the school programs really helped me out.
Because of those programs, I graduated as valedictorian and got a full scholarship to the University of Alaska Anchorage, which boosted my confidence! In Anchorage, I graduated college, got married, and started my own small business. We moved to the lower 48 in 2010 and have been in Jonesborough since 2014.
I truly believe every child should have access to education, no matter their background—it can change lives, just like it changed mine. Kids are our future—so we need to give them the best opportunities and support.
What are the most pressing issues in the office you are seeking, and how do you plan to address them?
I’m dedicated to making smart financial decisions to ensure all students receive the best education possible. My main aim is to ensure that every child has access to a high-quality education, regardless of their background or circumstances. I’m also keen to explore creative ways to boost teachers’ pay, improve nutrition for all students, and you can expect me to serve with integrity at all times.
