What professional and personal experiences make you the best candidate for this position?
Lincoln’s quote, "Government of the people, by the people, for the people", meant that governing should be done by regular people because they understand the needs of regular people.
I've been a stay-at-home mom; worked in health care as both aide and nurse; spent time in education from kindergarten to adult; been in sales, customer service, & food service. As a military spouse, I‘ve seen how things are done in many different places, so I’m not stuck in ‘the way things have always been done.’ I’ve spent countless hours trying to balance our budget. I learned how to differentiate between wants and needs. I'm a stickler for doing things the right way, even if it means bucking the crowd. I’m known for speaking truth to power.
What are the most pressing issues in the office you are seeking, and how do you plan to address them?
I want to restore confidence in the commission. The people of Washington County should feel confident that their commissioners listen to them with respect & an open mind. There should be open discussion & debate in the meetings. I plan to ask questions about the issues before the commission. Input from the public is necessary so we need to have public gatherings like town halls. Deliberation must be done in public, because the public deserves to know the thought processes behind decisions. Currently, zoning issues are in the spotlight (BWXT, Bitcoin, & Data Centers). Growth seems to be encouraged without regard to existing infrastructure, long-term costs, risks, or the will of the people. Existing communities must take precedence.
