Why are you running for this office?

I'm tired but not tired enough?! haha

I first ran because I was frustrated. As a parent navigating early intervention for my son, I discovered that schools 10 minutes apart had different resources and support. That unacceptable -- and I'll do whatever I can to change it. I don't like taking no for an answer when I know it can be better.

I'm running again because the progress that's been made isn't permanent and there's still room to grow! Our special education department has a new director and is being revamped. Public schools need board members who show up and fight for every student regardless of classifier, zip code, or political party.

How has your background prepared you to serve in this office?

My background until the first campaign was as a parent, community organizer, technology professional, and someone who struggled to navigate systems that were not made for everyone. Now I've been on the board for nearly 4 years and I've consistently asked the hard questions that sometimes no one else wanted to ask. I've help orgs bring new policies, navigate amending policies, and also amended systems when they are problematic.

What do you believe are the core responsibilities for someone elected to this office?

The core responsibilities are advocating for fully funded public schools, inclusive policies, and conducive environments to learning. Trusting our teachers and librarians to do their jobs and what they are trained to do is important and just as important is helping families navigate the system that is sometimes complicated.

What qualities do you possess that you believe would make you a successful officeholder?

I'm detail oriented, do my homework, answer emails and calls and I'm not afraid to call out problematic issues. I know how to listen to parents, teachers, and community members, even when they're frustrated or I might disagree. It's not my place to judge - it's my place to help! I'm typically direct and can read a room. And at the end of the day, I'm not going to give up. I'll answer emails at 1am and answer calls on weekends! But also, I know when to stop.

What top three things will you prioritize if elected to this office?

My top 3 priorities are student supports, facilities, and funding! I am so happy to elaborate on this but am honestly tired.

What are the main points you want voters to remember about you and your candidacy?

I want voters to know that I'm a hard worker and will work for the communtiy regardless of party but for what is best for students!
