Biographical Information
Why are you running for this office?
I have more than 25 years of experience in the Register's office in multiple roles. I understand the vital importance of this office to commerce in Knox County.
How has your background prepared you to serve in this office?
I have extensive experience in the management of public land records. I understand the importance of working with the real estate and title communities, as well as ensuring our citizens that their property records are safe, accurate, and accessible.
What do you believe are the core responsibilities for someone elected to this office?
The Register is charged with the storage and retrieval of property records. That requires staying on the cutting edge of technology. The Knox County Register of Deeds has been a leader across our state and nation for the past 20+ years in utilizing technology to keep records storage accurate, efficient and cost-effective.
What qualities do you possess that you believe would make you a successful officeholder?
I have always placed a premium on integrity and fiscal responsibility. In my years as an officeholder I have never increased an operating budget, and I have always looked for ways to improve services and eliminate waste.
What top three things will you prioritize if elected to this office?
1. Continue open and transparent leadership by making all financial reports available to the public.
2. Utilize the best available technology for storage and retrieval of public land records.
3. Protect our citizens by utilizing all available technology to prevent fraud and identity theft.
What are the main points you want voters to remember about you and your candidacy?
I want to leave an office in a better place than I found it. I have always prepared a chief deputy to not only lead in case of my absence, but ideally to succeed me in office. Continuity of good leadership is vital to good government.
