What inspired you to run for City Commission and why do you feel you are the best qualified candidate?

My main motivation is to serve people. My second is to bring common sense decision making to the Commission.

I have been attending City Commission meetings for years. I have sensed a lack of connection between the Commission and the Residents of Battle Creek, in that Residents feel like they are not being heard. In addition, I've noticed many resolutions that have been passed which seem to have been rushed through without paying attention to detail.

I worked as a Retail Investigator for over 25 years, as well as a Private Investigative Agent for 3 years. I would like to bring these investigative skills to the Commission and apply them to future resolutions by paying attention to detail as well as truly listening to the Residents.

What are the top three priorities in the commissioner district for which you are running and how would you address them?

The City of Battle Creek has many issues that need to be addressed.

1. Protecting Seniors - Pursue meaningful property-tax relief for residents age 67+ who have lived in Battle Creek at least 20 years. This would take a detailed investigative effort to see how it would affect the City as a whole.

2. Positive Police Reform - Strengthen public trust, support and publicly recognize good officers, and give the Community Oversight Board (COB) meaningful authority by overhauling the current structure.

3. Safe, Maintained Housing -Hold rental property owners to the same reasonable maintenance standards expected of homeowners, by utilizing Code Enforcement. In addition, pushing for renter protections against landlord retaliation.

What inspired you to run for City Commission and why do you feel you are the best qualified candidate?

I am running for Battle Creek City Commissioner At-Large to bring transparency, accountability, and citizen-first oversight back to local government. Over years of independent investigative reporting and public records work, I have actively monitored municipal operations, FOIA compliance, and board decisions. My experience serving on a local zoning board of appeals and as an election inspector gives me a practical understanding of municipal procedure and governance. I am uniquely qualified because I already do the work—asking tough questions, scrutinizing spending, and advocating for residents. I will ensure our commission operates openly, respects taxpayers, and genuinely serves the people of Battle Creek.

What are the top three priorities in the commissioner district for which you are running and how would you address them?

Taxpayer Accountability: End wasteful brownfield tax captures that divert public funds from core services. I will push for strict fiscal oversight on all development incentives. Privacy & Civil Rights: Oppose invasive surveillance technology, like Flock camera expansion, ensuring municipal policy respects resident privacy and constitutional rights. Local Government Transparency, Police Oversight, Restoring the Rule of Law & Fair Rules: Re-evaluate burdensome municipal permit fee schedules that hurt residents & small businesses, while enforcing strict adherence to FOIA & Open Meetings Act standards. I will ensure citizens have open access, clear communication, & a meaningful voice in city decisions & restoring Constitutional governance.
